Hi all,
I was driving up quite a steep road and whilst doing so i was going about 40mph. When I got to the top it basically slumped and i lost all power, there wasnt much pulling or torque whatever you call it. It seems my revs are going higher than usual and my speedo and car isnt gaining the usual pulling power it does. Im remapped from 140 to 190 and it doesnt even seem like 100.. really not sure whats wrong but theres no smoke, noises or anything unusual. Just doesnt drive normally..
It seems 1st and 2nd gear isnt great but once in 3rd its not right either but will pull ever so slightly better.. I can hear my turbo noise as usual and doesnt sound any different. So cant say it was the turbo.
wont get it into a garage until monday so anyone got any idea of what it may be??
Its a 2007 2.0 TDI 4motion.
Cheers, Craig.

Look for a hose that's come off, or if one has split.
In particular, check your intercooler piping as they have crappy joints (might have to remove engine tray).

I wouldnt know where to start looking for all that to be honest. Im guessing if it were a hose it may of split with the pressure of me booting it up the hill?

Clutch slipping??
-
Not sure what it is hence why im asking for info here. It changes gears fine mate its just the lack of power....
-
Does sound like clutch slip; revs rising, lack of go... esp. because your mapped. How many miles?
-
86k odd.. Well if its my clutch then thats only been about 6 months ive had it remapped. How much does this repair usually cost about? Im up in Orkney working at the moment so not got a great selection of garages here and the only VW "specialist" aparently wants £80 per hour...
-
My revs go higher than usual like when im accelerating my speed rises but my revs are way above normal..
-
Sounds like a slipping clutch

Defo clutch mate,I had this on my Edition30,A NEW sach's clutch sorted that out!
-
Hmm well if more than 1 person thinks it may be that then it may well possibly be. Im sure the garage i go to will know if it is or not. The thing is where im working there isnt much here in terms of somewhere that will get the Sachs stuff i think or can it be bought it easily from a factors of some sort?
-
It's not cheap mate :( Because you may as well get the DMF done at the same time being on 86k... probably £600 upwards for parts and labour.
I would defeinitely count out otherthings first... can you get it scanned, perhaps a fuelling issue... although it does sound like the clutch mate.
Do you have a map with handheld device like Bluefin? Perhaps try knocking it back to standard (therefore reducing the torque) for testing purposes.
-
I got it mapped at star performance. Where i am is the worst possible place for this to happen...
-
Just take it easy and change down more. The clutch will last plenty long enough for you to get it sorted when you're in a better place.

Yeah I might get it into a garage and see what they says wrong and if its the clutch then ill
Get it down the road.. Can u drive 80 miles with it in that condition??

Just take it easy, keep your engine off boost whe using higher gears at low rpm and you should get that journey completed.
-
Definately sounds like the clutch to me mate :happy2:
-
sounds like clutch

Right guys went to garage this morning and told the guy what happened.. He too firstly thought might be clutch. After a test drive by both men there they both said it wasn't that. According to the diagnostic machine it came up as an over boost fault? He said it wouldn't be a problem right now but if it was to keep shutting down then bring it back..??
What use think?
-
Does the car go into limp mode after the overboost? i.e. no turbo power at all until you cycle the ignition.
-
It only done it once. Nothing on screen saying limp home mode either as my
Friend has an a3 and his done it before and it told him when in that mode.
-
Golfs don't tell you on the screen, certainly not on midline anyway.
-
I'm on highline. Ill just take it easy and see how it goes!
-
Mine happened about 4-5 times, about 3 months after my remap, but hasn't done it since.
-
Cool well ill wait and see what happens. I hope it's not a new turbo in the near future
