Might cant get a golfR for 17k but I think you can get a s3 for 17k
-
Cheapest Golf R I've seen was £18,950 with 79k miles.
For £17k limit and nearly new and if badges don't worry you, then you could do worse than a low mileage Octavia VRS :happy2:

A Renaultsport Megane 250 Cup?
Are you limited by any practicalities?

A good suggestion for something different to a Golf. Try and get a non Cup with the Cup pack fitted. You get more toys that way. Options to definitely include are xenons (like the Golf, just look for projector lamps and washers), Renaultsport Monitor and Recaro seats. I've driven one and it was so different from a Golf. Dark and cocooning inside (I like that), a razor blade sharp throttle response, no body roll and great brakes.
Drawbacks: no 5 door option and getting in the back ain't the easiest and the boot is very deep, but plenty big enough.
