Title: Brake sticking - please help!
Post by: Pullafacial on March 11, 2013, 12:49:25 pm
I've had a slight problem for a few months now but it's slowly getting worse and I'm not sure what to do about it.
Basically, one of my brakes is very slightly sticking on. It's only been noticeable when you come to a complete stop other than that, not really been much of an issue.
However, in the last few days I'm convinced its getting worse and not wanting to trash my discs and pads thought I should do something about it.
A couple of people have said to me its a common VW problem and my only option is to replace the caliper but that seems excessive to me, surely there's an easier/cheaper fix?
Also I've searched on here and can't find anyone with the same issue so not entirely convinced its a common problem.

If anyone else has experienced this or can advise what i should do it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Where are you pal.

I can tell you where to order a new seal kit and if you're in the North West and can catch me in I can sort them for you

No Charge

That's a really kind offer buddy but I'm in Norfolk so probably wouldn't work!
Do think a new seal kit is what's needed and is it something a novice could do?

Thanks again

I would say that would depend how much time you have, and how much of a novice you are.

It might be worth you grabbing a low mileage caliper off eBay and having your indy fit it... probably looking at £40-£60 for the caliper and £30-£50 labour.
Get the garage to keep the caliper for you, so that you can rebuild it at your leisure, if your that way inclined.

Think that might be the way to go.

Do you think there's any point taking it apart, cleaning/greasing and putting it back together or is that wishful thinking?

Depends matey - but I feel if your asking the question then maybe not :happy2:
You can always rebuild it in your spare time and sell it on, or spare etc.
