Title: Can i upgrade the radio cd player easily?

Looking to upgrade from a RCD500 to a 310 or 510.
Seen post re current drain on older models, Mines late 2007, ho do i know if it will be affected?
Been told on here i need a VCDS to check.

I gather this is an expensive piece of software  :confused:.

Can i check the engine/chassis numbers to see if it affected or do i have to take it to a VW dealer
to find out or is there a cheaper option?
