Title: Dry-cleaning rims?

The Monzas are still fitted from GTI Intl. Haven't had a chance to take them off yet but with all the crap weather, they're losing their lustre.

How can I clean the rims without damaging them and without having to use water?

Can I wipe them clean or would that inflict damage?

The dust on the monzas might be pretty thick and probably wont wipe off dry. Just treat it as if you are washing the body of your car, better to take some more time and use water and soap rather than just wipe them and maybe scratch them.

Cuz it involved having to get out the hosepipe, connect it to the tap, run it through the kitchen window, in through the garage door....basically it'll take me about twenty minutes to set up before I can actually start washing the car!

A quick wipe down would take maybe five minutes max?

Am half thinking about using water in a bottle or spray bottle and half thinking about just leaving it. The rims are well protected with something like two coats of poorboy's sealent and three coats of collinite, so it's not like the dirt is stuck to the rim.

Plus I'm gonna take the rims off in the next few days. Just would be nice to see them clean before I put them into storage for god knows how long.

id leave it for now and try and find some time at the weekend.

Its always better to do a proper job first time round rather than having to do it twice.

Yeah I was thinking about just leaving it. My biggest fear is damaging the Monzas. They're nousey's old rims (diamond polished with black inserts) and I don't wanna screw up the finish. Figured five layers of product would prevent any scratches.

Other than that, the rims are coming off before the weekend and going into storage.

Just what I was thinking!  :happy2:

Warm bucket of soapy water then rinse, the brake dust shouldn't have done any damage as there should be plenty of protection on those rims!  :wink:
