Title: Hopefully soon to be MK5 owner from Manchester
Post by: petemcr on March 12, 2013, 02:55:13 pm
Hi all

So, I'm looking at getting a MK5 GTI, always fancied one and I am in a position to possibly get one now so I'm looking at taking my current daily (Corrado VR6) off the road in favor of something more modern.

Wouldn't mind knowing if anyone could tell me, how do the 2.0 TFSI engines deal with higher mileage, my VR has done something like 186k and still pulls like a train but I don't know much about the turbo engines they put in the GTI's and if I manage to get hold of one it may be over the 100k mark

Hopefully though this week I will be one of you, I should have never test drove one or I would still be using the Corrado :D

Hello and welcome to the site 100.000 miles plus, no issue for the GTI  :happy2:

Thanks Kiwi

So no issues like the 1.8t's had? I know a few people who've had issues with them when they started to get into that 100k mark, but they were the S3's, would assume the 2.0 is a lot stronger engine to turbo

Welcome  Nice Corrado.

100k plus miles is not an issue provided the car has been serviced in accordance with the schedule.

Personally I would go for one that's had the oil changed every year/10k miles, rather than the longlife service.

Thanks dude

Good to know on the milleage, you hear people say some VW engines are bullet proof etc... but I'd not heard about the 2.0T's so I didn't know how strong they were

the one I am looking at has been serviced often, had a good look through the history and it looks like it has been looked after but if I get it I'm going to get it health checked before I get it mapped I think

just to be on the safe side

My advise would be to get the cam follower replaced (common part to fail) - only about £25 from a dealer and there's plenty if how-to guides on the forum  :happy2:

Well I got it, loving it so far, I'm gonna check the cam follower and get it sorted, also read on here somewhere to get the cam on the high pressure fuel pump

But here it is parked in front of the corrado
