Title: RNS 510 firmware - Whats the risks???
Post by: TagnuT on March 12, 2013, 09:32:14 pm
Thinking of updating my 2011 RNS 510 firmware as I'd like to get radio text back after having it on the RCD.

Question is apart form the problems people seem to be posting installing the firmware, what are the risks? Can you brick the RNS???

Cheers.

Like all computer gear, there is always the possibility that if the firmware flash goes pear shape for what ever reason you may end up with a bricked unit.

Preparing for the worst case scenario, I would have a SWL recovery CD readily availabe for attempted recovery.

Cheers Bacillus.  :happy2: Well I went ahead and did it with fingers crossed (4120 firmware). Got a bit jumpy when the screen went black at first!!!. I did download SWL recovery CD just to be on the safe side.
Everything seems to be ok. Had to load the map info and music back onto the HDD. Radio text works
