............. The lawmakers decide to introduce the ban on all modifications to cars ( think they have already done to bikes? I Maybe wrong)
If this did happen then I would happily keep my gti as its quick enough for me :happy2:
However, some guys on here are pushing 300-400 bhp. Now my question is would you guys be happy going back to 200bhp or would you look for something else? Buying a car with that much power of the shelf would not be cheap.
Depressing but I can see this happening before too long :sad1:

I'd cry! A lot!
Then I'd buy a slow diesel and block all the traffic up going slow and keep my R for the track! :signLOL:

Think of the money you'd save, you'd probably be able to get a mclaren for the track

It will cost the goverment ££££££ in lost tax and kill loads of tuners like awesome gti and lots lots more

I know, would be an absolute disaster. But when has that ever stopped them!

Killing dangerous mods off like hid kits and other stupid mods I am all for banning

+1 :happy2:

The income from us lot who modify our cars must be huge in terms of tax and just what the industry on a whole brings to the uk economy
-
TBH I love my ED30 even when it was stock so would be okay to revert. I suspect though that my next upgrade would be more carefully chosen and may well be an older model with more stuff than a new model with fewer extras.

^ This.
Think of the tens of thousands of jobs it would take away from the economy, not good to do when the countries finances are strong. Let alone when they're seeming irrecoverable, like now.

I would sell..... buy a crappy TDI barge and buy a motorbike! :happy2:

I don't think they could ban it, just try regulate it more.
Make sure the modifications are insured etc.

This, I bet there is a serious amount of cars out there with uninsured mods.
-
This topic came up a while back. I think they were trying to ban all non approved mods. I'm sure most of our mods are certified somehow. So its not as bad as the shocking headline.

Was asking if the worst case scenario did happen, would you keep your current car or look for something with more power :happy2:

Ah ok. Would keep it as standard :happy2: I had it as standard until last month anyway and was happy (2 years).

M135i ?
Audi RS4 ?
911 carrera s ?
Focus RS MP 350 ?
Cheapish megane and use it a lot on track ?
Or I'd let the government win and buy a A4 2.0tdi s- line

We'd ask Steve to convert this to a TVR forum

I cant think why the government would ever do this? What does it achieve? Apart from destroying a huge industry!
I would just cry alot, be pissed off with the C**TS who decided it was a good idea and be a little bit richer i guess!
-
I'd flout the rules and plead ignorance. "I bought the car like this officer, the exhaust? Its standard! The 19" chromed spinners, HID's and Neon's? Optional extras from the factory....honestly!"
Honestly, I'd sell up. No point having a car to modify if you can't. Always fancied a E92 M3.
-
I may have got this wrong but aren't mods banned a few European countries such as France?
I cant ever see them banning them but it wouldn't surprise me if they were tightly regulated ie cars had to be inspected by VOSA when mods are carried out not just at MOT and they started to whack the tax up, Is there not an argument as to why someone with say a 300bhp Gti pays the same tax as someone with a stock car? (i'm not in favour of this by the way)
*puts tin hat on* :fighting2:
-
^ tis a very good point about the tax... that would probably kill off the ecu tuners... If there's anyway our government can introduce more tax they will at some point.
-
I'll have to get rid of my little Polo aerial :sad1:
Heartless barstewardss!

Surely it would be near on impossible for them to police it anyways! How would they know whats stock? And where would you draw the line? Stereo? Hands free kit? Leather upgrade? A change from 17"monzas to BBS CH etc. its a load of bull!
Well it better be anyway!
-
Wasn't this spoke about before saying that modified cars wouldn't pass the MOT?
Load of poppycock. :happy2:
-
I assume anyone with half a motoring brain that's qualified to do MOT's and the like could spot most performance mods but there'd be a few especially cosmetic stuff that may be harder to prove.
Believe me if they were going to tax it in some way they'd find them.
-
I'm old, I remember the days when motoring journalists wrote about the nasty common market and its "type approval" plans which would destroy our fun, I still had a bike then, that must have been 1979 or so.

with no modified cars, the car crime rate could drop. Never know

 - Show your workings?
Two things spring to mind, one is that I'm sure a good percentage of stolen cars are factory spec as are the cars driven by many road crime offenders and secondly, surely a percentage of modified car owners are statistically more likely to turn to crime if their hobby, pride and joy is no longer something they could legally modify?

That quite an interesting thought to be fair ofcourse im assuming you mean the younger ones, as they woukd need to get there thrills elsewhere than from there own car.

I dont see how this could be true, surely its easier to steal a standard car for stealing to order?
Stuff like alloy wheels, stereos etc have things in place to stop them being stolen, locking wheels nuts, removable facias etc.
Also older cars, all of my mates have aftermarket alarms and immobilisers fitted to their mk2, mk1 golfs, without these their cars would be at a much higher risk of being stolen as an easy joy ride.
