I've just looked and it says he has had a feedback of 90. Am I looking at the right thing? What have eBay said?

he claimed he had no room left on ebay to post parts for the r32 so  that he could deal outside of ebay...
yet he has no history of any sales feedback...he only has some buyer feedback plus changing the account id only a week ago doesnt  help..
makes me not want to use ebay but obviously there are alot of great sellers there just need to do some background checks before sending money off!!

Good way to spot a scammer is to see feedback of 90 (for example) but no history in last 12 months (meaning usually they racked up quite a few negatives in last 12 months, left the account dormant for 12 months until they cleared and then start up again.

Contact your bank but they will likely only refer you to police but who knows what they can do about it?.,

Try a twist and see if you can sell him some bits - then you could get him to collect if you make the offer tasty enough - photo for the old bill and a bit documentation could possibly get you a result of some form!

Dear motor_madness123,

Hi,

Do you still have the rear bumper and side skirts, if you do what condition are they in. I would need to get them resprayed so just concerned about major damage that all.

He replied,

yes i still have them and they have no damage at all, i can do them for £190 delivered

My thoughts from reading this; he doesn't have the parts and he took the images from another listing that has gone out of date on eBay.

Hello Garry,

Thank you for writing to us about your seller "motor_madness123" of the vehicle (item 271170820862). I understand they have asked you to complete this purchase outside eBay and I'm sorry to hear you have not received this item.

I reviewed our records and I can see this item was listed by a third party using an eBay member's account without their permission. It's likely the unauthorised user obtained the account password using a spoof email. Unfortunately we weren't made aware of this until after the listing had ended. We strongly advise you not to respond to any further emails regarding this listing.

Once we became aware of this unauthorised activity, we took immediate action and we're now restoring the account to its original owner. For privacy reasons, I can't share any further details regarding this member's account. However, please be assured that we're dedicated to keeping eBay a safe and reputable place to buy and sell.

At this point, I suggest that you take steps to stop your payment if possible. If you sent a cheque or your credit/debit card information, please contact your bank immediately.

If your payment was by cash, MoneyGram or Western Union transfer, or a cheque that has already been cashed, contact your local police. Retain any emails you exchanged with the seller. The police may need them in order to investigate further.

We are more than willing to assist the police with their investigations if needed. Please ask the investigating officer to email us by using the ''report information to eBay'' link on the following page:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/safetycentre/law_enforcement.html

Garry, I would also like to give you general information on how you can protect yourself from this kind of activity. 'Spoof' emails claim to be from eBay but ask you to provide personal information such as passwords and payment details. They often ask you to click on a link in the email and sign in to a fake website.

I encourage you to take a few moments to learn more about spoof and how to protect yourself. For information on this subject, please click on the link below:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/safetycentre/spoof.html

If you'd like advice on your consumer rights at this point, you can contact the free Government advice line Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.

You'll also find lots of useful information at eBay's Safety Centre. Simply click on the link below:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/consumer-rights/consumer-rights.html

I trust this information helps clarify this matter and helps you resolve this situation. I hope your future transactions on eBay will run smoothly.

Kind regards,

Shirley O'Connor

eBay Trust

Cheers for posting this thread, it's a good reminder lesson to us all. Hope you get reimbursed OP, and hope the law manages to catch the scammer.
Title: Re: Buyers beware
Post by: alexmccabe on March 19, 2013, 03:24:22 pm
eBay have very good customer service and usually err on the side of the buyer. The fact that you purchased outside of eBay and they are still willing to help proves this, but as they don't have a transaction going through them, they can't prove that you sent the money so won't issue a refund to you. Or normally they wouldn't.

It really sucks, and I feel sorry for you  :sad1:

Post his mobile number on here. Come on guys, bombard this number via web sites where you enter a mobile number for text updates + ppi insurance claim companies.

IF he's defrauded you he deserves as much hassle as we can unleash.

I hope you get things resolved Gary.

Maybe... the original owner of the account does actually sell car parts... then his account got hacked; theif takes payment from peeps outside eBay with no record of his address / mobile / tel etc.  ONLY his bank account, which will give you a good idea where he is by doing a search for the Sort code on: http://findsortcodes.co.uk/

or, he's just playing eBay and everyone else for fools.... :fighting:
