Title: Stopping the rain sensing wipers
Post by: Beeps on March 18, 2013, 09:04:56 pm
To stop the manic rain-sensing double-speed wipers when all you wanted was a delayed wipe - disconnect the sensor.

Prize apart the black clam shells behind the mirror. At the bottom of the glass-mount, pull down the mirror's power plug and pull the mirror down. Moving the top tube a bit gives access to the rain-sensor plug, pull it out.

Rebuild and you have nice, calm, normal delayed wipers.

Glad im not the only one that wants to set them on fire. Sometimes they work fine but most of the time u look an absoloute t*t sat at traffic lights with them going off on one. This i will be doing.

Mine are pretty accurate 90% of the time! Being a 2008 though I think it has a revised sensor...

Mine must have been the stoner or the dole queue one. Only works when you give it a good prod!

...and mines rarely do a 'rogue' wipe when the windscreen is bone dry. My civic had auto wipers and it used to do at least one 'dry wipe' every day if they were switched on  :scared:

My late 56 plate works well, so I'll count my blessings.  Glad you found a cure for yours, though.

I had no problems with the wipers on either of my Golfs (the GTI is my second).

If you don't like them simply use Vagcom to disable them or you can SKIP the "intermittent/auto" setting and use them manually or on regular speed.

Mine work well 99.9% of time but sometimes I find them a little slow to react although the massive saving in the effort of using my right arm negates any lack of visibility.

Oddly used to have the odd nearly wipe on my 8p a3 sportback even though it didn't have auto wipers!

Xjay1337, The reason I had to pull the plug is I could not find an option on my Vagcom to turn them off - how do you do it?

There is a checkbox somewhere I believe, auto sensing wipers or something.
