Title: Common issues for newbies
Post by: alexmccabe on March 20, 2013, 09:38:24 am
Replacement parts after purchasing
A guide on what the DV and PCV do and the problems they cause:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=44709.0 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=44709.0)

The old DV's that need replacing:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fvw-golf.tw%2Fuploads%2Fpost-166-1157544151.jpg&hash=018dae1144ba8344a0f5b205d9c93e4cf75ce895)

The new ones to replace with:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.my-gti.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F06f145710g-06h145710d.jpg&hash=369b9e294ce56f7a49a060ec9779e4cffe299499)

ReplacementPart Numbers:
DV Revision G - Part number  06F 145 710 G
DV Revision D - Part number  06H 145 710 D
Note: you can choose either of these, there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

PCV Revision R - Part number  06F 129 101 R
Note: There may be variations depending on your build year and engine. Ring the dealer and confirm that it is the correct part for your car.

Cam-Follower - Part Number 06D 109 309 C
You will need to replace the cam-follower after 80-100k miles. http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1162.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1162.0.html)

Thread on Ignition Coil Recall: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,75393.msg798795.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,75393.msg798795.html)
VW are currently doing an Ignition Coil recall on older registered cars. Give your local dealers a call and give them your plate. They will be able to tell you if you are eligible. Definitely worth doing.

And here is a thread that lists a whole load of how-to guides, that is very useful: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,52731.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,52731.0.html)

Front Wing rust under warranty
If you are unlucky enough to have rust on your front wing, VW will sometimes sort it for you under warranty. They offer a 12 year paint warranty on these cars, and if you have rust on your wings with the original factory paint, you could very well be in luck. Bear in mind, they are extremely hard to get done and you may end up having to pay for some of it yourself.

There is a whole thread discussing the various degrees of success that people have had on this here: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,48873.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,48873.0.html)

3-Door Broken Seat Slider (the seat does not slide when the top handle is pulled)

There is a little clip at the back of the seat, behind the flap. This clip is made of plastic and flimsy, but easy to replace. More details on how to do this can be found here:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,37400.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,37400.0.html)

Useful replacements
Spark Plugs: NGK Iridium 8. These come highly recommended on the forum, and work throughout all stages of tuning.

If your air-con has stopped worked, there is a chance that the pressure sensor/switch (same part, different people call it by different names) has broken.
Aircon pressure switch: 1K0 959 126 E - £59.80
Seal: 8E0 260 749 C - £0.77

Not a usual mod, but a thread on adding the BlueMotion parts to your car: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,22986.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,22986.0.html)
Full VW Golf Engine under tray
(x1) 1K0 825 237 P Undertray £26.24
(x3) 1K0 825 951 Hex headed bolt (Combi) 80p each (M6X20 hex socket head bolt)

Rear axle cover as fitted to VW Golf bluemotion
(x1) 1K0 501 713 D Trim for Rear Axle £25.03
(x1) 1K0 501 682 Retaining bracket £1.67
(x1) N 905 483 05 Retaining bolt 47p
(x1) N 901 838 02 Retaining bolt £1.63

Rear arm covers from Audi TT
(x1) 1K0 511 539 E Stone chip Guard £4.69
(x1) 1K0 511 540 C Stone Chip Guard £5.91
(x4) 8E0 825 267 A spreader rivet 10p each
(x2) 1K0 609 734 C brake cable clamp 76p each
(x2) N 102 854 02 Bolt 18p each

If I recall correctly, there are some limitations to doing this, one of them being an after market exhaust to fit some parts. Give the thread a read for a better understanding. There is apparently and fuel economy increase. I have been planning to do this, but funds have been tight lately.

If anyone has anything that other newbies should look out for, let me know and I will add it to here.

Hi mate

Missed the cam follower PN off the newbs thread and also maybe add best plugs recommended at present.

I know it's a pain in the ass but if we (you) modified the original post with the relevant links to the how to fit blah blah blah maintenance part that would be cool for people to access too

This'll be the ultimate newbs thread  :happy2:

That's my hope, and now that it has been moved to the How to Guides section it should help even more!

If you have the PN for the cam follower, I would much appreciate it. I can't find it.

Again, if you have any of the relevant links, send them my way. Search on this thing isn't all that great, it can be hard to find things.
