Title: Mk5 2.0 gt tdi brakes binding
Post by: lockster0191 on March 23, 2013, 12:03:32 am: Hi need bit of advice what to look at.
As title says my front brakes stuck on a bit last night, was driving as soon as I took my foot off accelerator I could feel car slowing.
When I stopped few minutes later my front drivers alloy was warm.
Unsure if connected but seems strange I only drove car few minutes started fine got out back in battery dead, but before this short trip I had been driving for a hour maybe just coincidence I don't know ?

Post by: camfollower on March 23, 2013, 01:15:58 am: I doubt they are related... Although poor battery power can cause strangeness; airbag faults, abs faults etc.

I would have the battery tested and also take the wheel off and inspect the caliper, might be a torn boot leading to a sticking piston. If the battery is ok, could be the alternator... A scan will show.

02M911024P fits a Golf 2009 onwards

Have you got your current part number? Go off that.

This is what is listed for a MY05 6 speed manual. A lot of them are stated for petrol's only.

I see you have 0191 in your name, I guess you're near Newcastle?

hunters autos any idea if they are good for prices ? from your graph which are for diesel starter still on car so no part number till tomorrow when i take it off.

Worth a call, maybe they can do a refurb/exchange service.

Have you tried the scrappies? Norman Marshall's in Newburn had one or two mk5's and Tourans in a couple of months ago, probably got loads of these on the shelf as it's huge.

023P and 023PX both have 2.0 diesel 6speed manual, others are for 2.0 petrol, 1.6 petrol, 1.9 diesel etc.

Yeh going off your starter is probably the best idea mate.

Post by: lockster0191 on March 24, 2013, 02:48:16 pm: ok now back to binding brakes, took caliper off attacked rust with a wire brush & wet-dry where pads sit.
put on copper grease so they should be fine now.
when using the Lazer wind back tool on brake piston it was solid to push back with reservoir top off so am i looking at bad piston or brake lines ?

Post by: camfollower on March 24, 2013, 03:23:39 pm: Use some Plus Gas on the sticking caliper... then some Mintex Ceratec grease on the back of the pads, I've heard Copper grease can attack the seals.
Most likely a caliper will come with lines. :happy2:
