I've been to veiw a mk5 gti today but I didnt buy it, anyways when I started it it had like a rattle noise just as the car started up. The noise was only there for a second or two, the salesman reckon all these cars make that noise on start up but he would say that. Just wanted to know is this normal or not so I know when I next go to veiw one. Cheers

No the engine sounded fine when running, it was like a rattle or something loose as the car started up then it went just about right away after the engine started. It didn't sound like a noise that should be there to me also the car didn't struggle to start either so I dunno

i get it sometimes when cold i think itis kinda the norm

clutch noise, if had have pressed the clutch pedal, it might have went away...

Probably got a little wear on the hydraulic chain tensioner guides, once oil pressures up normally it goes away, if it's very noisy then its either been stood ages or ready for replacing

I get this as well sometimes, also here it when coming to a stop at a junction occaisionally, hope that's not something else to sort out !

So il put it down to what Stevo said, that's good to know what the noise most likely was.
