Title: Any Mac experts out there? Need help please...
Post by: Sunglasses Ron on March 26, 2013, 01:17:28 pm
Hi guys,

Over the last few weeks I have noticed that I keep getting an enormous amount of pop up adverts (no not porn  :signLOL:) appearing when browsing the internet on Google Chrome. These can vary from windows I open on websites that get directed to some random advert which appears in the original window, to another completely separate webpage opening when I click in a search bar on Youtube for example
I have done a search on Google and found alsorts of different answers - non of which have helped unfortunately. The closest I've found to what I think is the problem is something called 'Torrent Handler' but I can't seem to find any sign of it on my Mac or Google Chrome..

Any ideas guys? It's driving me nuts!!!  :stupid:

Just pop ups install a google pop up blocker, you can install them via the browser

Torrent Handler is for downloading stuff

Perfect example of another issue I am getting -

Random text on forums and websites seem to have a link attached to them for some bizzarre reason too. When you hover over the word, you get the pop-shown. Unless of course you had anything to do with that mate?

Why not just use Safari?

Is there anything in the extensions in chrome settings?

Was going to suggest as above. Are there any plugins that you have installed (unbeknowingly) into Chrome?

I find Safari much better on OSX anyway.

Click on the 'Window' menu and the top, then choose 'Extensions'.. If you see 'Torrent Handler' in there, disable it and they should disappear.  If you don't see 'Torrent Handler', then disable anything in there, one at a time until you find the culprit.

Hope that helps.

I have used Google Chrome for a long time now and would rather not have to change if I don't have to..

When looking in the 'Extensions' menu, all that appears to be there is something called 'Fast Save'. Is this normal?

It's an extension or plug-in (and probably cookie) that's installed itself without his consent.  It should show in Extensions.  You might want to clear your cookies as well. Once it's gone, then install something like Ad Block Plus for Chrome..

This is what I was pointed to when doing a search on Google mate, but all I can find in there is this 'Fast Save'. Should I bin it?

Might be worth checking the settings you have to make sure nothing is allowed to run without you saying so.

more thank likely it was installed by a pop-up that looked like it had a cancel button or something which in fact was a install button. Evil tricks. you just need to be careful when anything pops up during normal browsing
