What could be less fun than standing around in a car park with a bunch of sceney-people, everyone wears Chinos at an Edition meet, never any good. Only Edition show worth going to is Edition... which I realise makes no sense, but the 3 day one.  :signLOL:

Oh true buddy.
Normally I go to Springfest as it's more of an action meet and then look at pictures from Edition. Last year I went to Springfest, my mate went to Edition, and he came to Springfest at 2 saying he was bored LOL

With the weather we are expecting I can't say no to track time..

I was thinking about going to this, but the only time I've ever drag raced mine was at Inters last year and it was terrible, just no grip and wheelspin in third. How does the Pod's sticky tarmac compare?

Santa pod has literally just had its track resurfaced. Was done in time for Fast Car show but well the rain stopped play. So in theory, if the sun comes out like planned, should be perfect.

Shame I have no wheels :( literally!

When I left John, he was on 12.3 @107-108mph. But knowing him he will of been running most of the afternoon so will of improved on that.
Wind won't of helped anybody today though..

Thing is with DSG and AWD, its so consistent with that you get pretty much the same time everytime.

Looking at that time.  Keiths R with Stage 2+ ran 12.2/110mph in good conditions, so if johns R with Stage 2 + and WMI is managing a 12.3/107mph with a headwind id say we might just be getting a new K04 leader very soon.

Whats the general consensus on the newly laid Santa pod tarmac?

Watching all these Golf's flying up the strip today didn't half bring back some memories of running mine...   :sad1:

Thanks for the vids Luke :happy2:

It was a bad day for trying to set any records. I'm glad I left the race fuel at home for the day and just ran the V-Power and WMI for a baseline. Best run of the day was a 12.3038 with a 1.7741 sixty foot time. The car was full weight including over half a tank of fuel, another 5 litres of water to clean the car, 2 helmets, various cleaning stuff and all Luke's videoing stuff plus his rucksack. The headwind was atrocious and knocked a little off my times and also just happened to be the hottest day of the year to date! The car wasn't running perfectly as it seemed to have some power loss going into 5th gear....just seemed a little "thinner" than normal! Anyway, just 0.03 seconds off the 4WD K04 record in those conditions isn't too bad at all. :happy2:

Apparently it's quite a "common" problem, where the diff is held together with rivets one of them decided to break and make a run for it. I think 3rd gear syncro on that box was going anyway but still.. My buddy towed me to the BP station 10 miles or so down the road and my friend who was in the car with me had AA cover so we used that lol

Are you mapped for the WMI, also are you now single port or direct port injection.  Would have been great to see the difference up the strip that the WMI makes if you could switch between maps and then also do one with race fuel.  The DSG R is definitely the best platform for confirming the actual gains as its so consistent in the launch and traction.

Thats a gleaming 60ft time.  Just had a look at Keiths times in the 1/4 mile thread, your 0.14 up on him there. You need to get your slip and times up in the thread.   :happy2:

I'm still single port injection at the moment.

That run hooked up well, most of my other launches were 1.83-1.89. I think after 7-8 launches the DSG isn't as crisp as in the first few runs, so the launches to the 60' dropped a little.

Hoping to get my timing slips today, a buddy of mine got it for me as I was towed away early.

Think I did a 15.7 at 93mph considering the headwind I'm really pleased with that.

Keep trying mate, you will get there I'm sure. It took me a lot of practice, but paid off in the end with consistant 12.7s once I got my launch sorted..  :happy2:

Is this you by the way?

:star:thanks for that Vid Ben :happy2:

Next time I reckon I'll be on race fuel and race map with the rear seats and passenger seat out. With no running issues would also help :happy2:

I couldn't believe that the 996 Twin turbo S couldn't crack into the 11's, the new RS4 estate couldn't crack into the 12's and just how slow that rusty old beetle was!

Nick, that MKIV was epically fast, what bhp is that monster running?

You know Darkside had a Ibiza TDI that did an 11.9 on drag tyres, 12.6 on street rubber......and is road legal.
Diesel power!!

The Red one in the pic above wasn't there yesterday mate. But the Red one in your vid went very well. Not sure on mods, but K04 at least I would guess.

yeah that's me!!! What's the key to launching with dsg then ;)

It's not so much the launch itself, it's more about getting the car into 2nd gear as fast as possible I found.  IIRC I would activate the LC, lift off the throttle slightly to enable to revs to drop to just over 2k, then once the brake is released and the car sets off I would apply throttle in 1st and as soon as the car starts to loose grip I would knock it straight into 2nd and power on from there.
A Stage 2+ car has easily enough torque to pull the car from lowish revs in 2nd and it's a lot quicker than trying to tame the wheel spin in 1st gear and wasting valuable time.

If you turn the speakers up on this vid, you can hear me change to second pretty quickly..

If the track is prepped properly, you should not be getting traction issues like that..   Yes you will sometimes get a bit in second, but normally it should be fine.. Try again next time mate.. That vid was on the 21st Jan too, so it was cold and damp which wouldn't of helped. The track in the morning was comical and it wasn't until late in the afternoon that it started to be usable.
Check out our first run of the day..  :signLOL: (and no that's not clutch slip  :surprised:)

They had to close the track for another hour after that run. The wheels would spin up at 40mph in 4th with part throttle it was that bad.. Track prep is key there..

As good as the night event sounds, I wouldn't build your hopes up too much for a PB there mate. I went to one a few years back and as soon as the sun dropped, the track turned in to an ice rink pretty much. May have just been a one off I suppose, but didn't fill me with confidence to do it again.
I would be tempted though if I weren't away on a Stag do..  :sad1:

Stage 1.5 ED30 with DSG map and DIY decat, stock induction kit ran a 13.6s with passenger.  I was happy with that.  I just want to see some of my stage2 & 2+ Ed30s run at pod.

@Hurdy.  The orange mk4,  Last dyno power run on Saturday night it ran 650bhp, then flywheel to crank bolts sheared off... Lol so was fixing car until 10.30pm Saturday.  But as map was unfinished I turned boost down 3-4psi and pulled 4deg timing out so maybe it was 600-620bhp on the first runs which Dan kept missing 2nd gear,   But 10.6s run was with 75hp of nos added so maybe around 660-675bhp?  His last run closed the trip down :-(. Looked like car blew up as dumped oil and white smoke everywhere,  but it turned out to be the rubber seal on oil filter.... Ooops

The black mk4 2wd around 500bhp 11.8s, but wheel spins 1/2 the 1/4 mile even with drag slips..

I scrolled down, saw the grey bit and immediately thought of an AMD dyno graph, it was only until I saw the carrot I regained my contextual awareness.
