The mk7 GTi could be ordered from 26th March, just wanted to know if anyone had ordered yet and if the dealers had any brochures yet?
-
You can configure one on the Irish website: http://www.volkswagen.ie/en/sales/configurator.html
You can't select the performance pack as it's not available in Ireland. AFAIK xenons are standard in the UK also, but are extra here.
17" wheels are standard too.
-
Can download the price list here:

-
Not yet ....
Dealers have only just got pricing themselves, looks like the 26th launch date wasn't planned too well
-
Yep :pomppomp:
-
I see it's on the iPhone configuration app now...
-
Hmm, my configuration came to £35,245...
-
Got mine to just shy of €50k / £42k... with all the most expensive bits... tis a lot of cash for a GTI.
-
Yep :pomppomp:
Is this for you ? as well as the company car or is it a Milltek project car. :happy2:
-
I see it's on the iPhone configuration app now...
Got it for the iPad works pretty well, just too tempting to press the options.....
-
I got mine up to £34,214! The performance pack option is a no brainer at only £980 , looks like that 'Laser Blue - a like' colour hasnt made it to the UK , I doubt it is 'Night Blue' as that looks far too dark. Two Silvers and 2 Greys as well , how very boring - wheres the Yellows and Oranges and Bright Greens?? - not even Java Brown is on the GTI list.
-
It's a grand for the white pearlescent paint alone
-
It's a grand for the white pearlescent paint alone
Thats what I'd have , or Tornado Red , not enamoured with any of the other colours.
-
Yep :pomppomp:
Is this for you ? as well as the company car or is it a Milltek project car. :happy2:
Yep It's going to be my company car and our new development car as well :driver: :driver:
I have speced a DSG car in Orxy White with the GTI performance pack, pro navi and few other choice extras, it's due early June :happy2:
-
Mine came to £31,989. Good to see the base price where it is. Means less options to tick with 18"s and xenons standard too.
I went for DSG, DNS pro, performance pack, dynaudio, pure white, colour display, keyless entry, 5 year warranty a d fixed servicing.
I can't see why you would need to spend more money on other options tbh?
-
Yep :pomppomp:
What spec did you go for Steve?
:popcornsoda:
-
I really don't understand the pricing of the new gti. BMW and merc are offering more premium and considerably faster cars for less money. It's not even 250hp standard, poor show vw.
-
Tis good in a way, as Mk5 / Mk6 variants may hold their value slightly better, opposed to if the Mk7 was cheaper... but yes it (dare I say) is over priced.
-
Can someone please explain the 'keyless entry' option?
-
^^^^
~~ Clicky here ~~ (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/glossary/keyless-access)
Managed to spec mine to £38k and change!
-
The base price hasn't changed hugely, it's just when you add a few choice extras that the price rockets. I very quickly had over £4k of options.
-
£28,380 for mine. I won't order one though as a matter of principle because they're asking for £125 for door sill trims. Lol.
My Mk5 will keep me happy for a good while yet. Just jinxed my car now :sad1:
-
It'll be a few years before I can afford one of these, and a Golf R will be my next Golf (still some time away!!), so I'm hardly gonna go for a GTi after that!!
-
Why would you spend £35k+ on a GTI :rolleye:
+1 I'm afraid.
Residuals will drop like a stone like pretty much 90% of cars these days too regardless of badge.
-
Yeah vw are taking the piss but if people buy it then why would they not try to make more profit
-
Someone has too
Some people spent over 40k on R's.
-
Think they may have got the MPG wrong on the configurator, 56.5 Urban can't be right can it?
-
Think they may have got the MPG wrong on the configurator, 56.5 Urban can't be right can it?
Just checked the VW website and it is the same. I'm amazed by that to be honest. Who needs a diesel!?
-
Never going to get that :signLOL: maybe in a lab under crazy conditions but not on the roads
-
Think they may have got the MPG wrong on the configurator, 56.5 Urban can't be right can it?
Cant believe thats possible EVEN if your driving like Miss Daisy, in which case you bought the wrong car!
-
Apparently 6th is very long geared in the Mk7...According to the CAR review anyway. They tested a dsg version so don't know about the manual, but imagine it's the same.
-
It will be down the the long 6th gear, real world its not going to be that - probably just below 30 maybe.
The new engine has some liquid cooled exhaust manifold which sounds fruity.
The old 211 EA888 claimed 37mpg - we do mainly short journeys but overall average is 28mpg, you can get 35 on a run - 37 seems impossible without turning the turbo off completely !
-
I'm pleased volkswagen have increased the standard spec on the gti, parking sensors, folding mirrors, cruise control all of which should be standard on car in this class and price. It will make life easier buying a used one and thats the only way I would buy one, my specced up one on the configurator comes in at 29k much more that I'm personally willing to spend. (and thats not to take anything away from anyone who is! :happy2:). So when a one year old/18 month/ two year old car comes up at 21/22k in the future it will definately be on my maybe list.
-
I wouldnt pay anything over £15,000 for a Golf , or any other modern mass produced car to be honest , at that price point they are justifiable but £35-38k is rediculous! £13.5k got me an 18,000 mile 4 year old 3 door with leather and 18s , in White. I think Il let someone else lose 20 grand on their GTI , THEN I will buy it! :)
-
Each to their own eh. Someone has to do it for you to benefit.
Nothing comes free, you loose a few grand on a older car a year, few more on a new one given but if you can justify if then why not.
-
£15k is pretty limiting mind! Would the same apply to a 911? That's a modern mass produced car...
-

I don't know why losing money bothers people so much. Life's too short and you can't take it with you!
-
I don't know why losing money bothers people so much. Life's too short and you can't take it with you!
That is an unusually daft statement from you.
I thought all Yorkshire men were fully understanding of the value of money. It is fine losing money if you can afford to. :P
-
I'm not a Yorkshireman...
-

I earn £12K a year after tax , so a 911 is out of the question , £15K is my self imposed limit for any car.
-
No!!!!!!!! Where's the electric blue of the show models?????
Gutted.
My configuration (if I had the dough) would come in at £31295.00, quite a lot for a Golf but I'd pay it if I had it.
I'd go for one in standard black with standard 18's and cloth and the following:
GTI performance Pack (£980)
Adaptive Chassis Control (£795)
Panoramic Sunroof (£900)
Keyless Entry (£350)
Winter Pack (£370)
Multifunction Colour Display (£135)
Rear view camera (£165)
DNS (£735)
Dynaudio Soundpack (£520)
5 YR Warranty (£490)
Cargo Net (£45)
Carpets (£65)
Better get hanging wallpaper then!!!
-
So who is waiting for theirs then?
I'm waiting for proper uk reviews in the press against the competition and probably for a drive in a demo before I go any further. I think the very keen pricing by BMW of their M135i doesn't help in making my mind up, even if it is ugly!
-
Anyone read the first drive in CAR today? Sounds bloody good!
It also looks very good in the "real-world" photographs, something I don't think has came across very well in the launch images.
-
you gonna scan it in then :happy2:
-
you gonna scan it in then :happy2:
I read it in the supermarket this morning. I'm not a big fan of CAR so I didn't buy it, otherwise I would have scanned it for everyone.
-
 ok, I'll nip to my local superstore later
-
Couldnt find a feature on their website either.
-
I read it in the supermarket this morning.
It's a pity that the jazz mags are all wrapped up nowadays. I can't have a cheeky look at 'Razzle' anymore. :sad1:
-
Decided to spec one up with the options I would want, came to £32,740. A lot for a GTI.
My Extras:
http://sdrv.ms/10uKdHW
-
Kalps, you can save £125 on the gear knob...only an option for manuals apparently... As they say, every little helps!
-

:signLOL: Yeah didn't notice that but still not Tesco prices at 32.5K
If I did go for one then it would have to be about 3 years old so down to around 15k. Planning on keeping my Mk5 for a few years still so could be good timing :happy2:
-
I doubt a 3 year old new golf GTi will be £15k more like £20k
-
Ok maybe 3-4 years.
-
Ok maybe 3-4 years.
Look at the mk6 prices ow, thatll be what you would expect from a 3-5 year old mk7 in the years to come. I think by the time its in my price range i would have moved on to something a little bigger and more estate-yer
-
I doubt a 3 year old new golf GTi will be £15k more like £20k
Wouldn't that assume a £30k GTI will retain 65%+ of it's value over 3 years? I can't see that personally.
-
Look at the mk6 prices now...
I've read that MK6 GTIs are becoming quite hard to shift at the moment, so who knows how accurate the prices are...
-
Time will tell
cars have become more expensive over the last few years
look at the prices of the mk6 when it was launched in 2009 and compare that to the final price at its end in 2012
The mk7 probably will also increase in price, dealers will price older used cars to the current model
-
Golf's are good for holding value 60% is about right I thought.
There seem to be plenty of GTI's to choose from which won't help.
-
Mk7 GTI is 5 insurance groups lower than the outgoing Mk6 GTI too. Sounds good. :happy2:
The seventh-generation version of the iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI, which was introduced at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, is now available to order in the UK, with prices starting at £25,845 on the road – just £195 more than the previous model despite substantial enhancements. For the first time it is available from the factory with two power levels: the standard 220 PS GTI and the GTI Performance, a £980 option which increases power to 230 PS, adds larger brake discs and a front limited-slip differential.
The new GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine (TSI) with 220 PS. In the GTI Performance version, the engine’s maximum power is boosted to 230 PS. Both GTI models develop a maximum torque of 350 Nm (258 lbs ft). The standard GTI accelerates to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 152 mph. The GTI Performance has a top speed of 155 mph and needs just 6.4 seconds for the sprint to 62 mph. Despite its impressive performance, the new Golf GTI is in insurance group 29E – five groups lower than its predecessor.
Both versions of the GTI are equipped with a Stop/Start system and fulfil the EU-6 emissions standard that takes effect in 2014. With a six-speed manual gearbox, they attain the same low fuel consumption value of 47.1 mpg (CO2 emissions of 139 g/km). This means that the latest Golf GTI offers an 18 per cent improvement in fuel economy compared to the previous model. With the optional six-speed DSG gearbox, the two GTI models achieve fuel consumption figures of 44.1 mpg (equivalent to 148 g/km CO2 for the standard GTI and 149 g/km CO2 for the GTI Performance).
Buyers who opt for the £980 Performance pack gain not just an extra 10 PS of power, but also uprated brakes and a limited-slip differential. The ventilated front brake discs increase from 312 x 25 mm to 340 x 30 mm , while the rear discs, which are 300 x 12 mm solid discs on the ‘standard’ GTI, are changed to 310 x 22 mm ventilated discs. The front differential is a new development, dubbed VAQ. This provides more neutral and agile driving behaviour and allows higher speeds to be carried through curves. The system consists of a multi-plate coupler between the differential cage and right driveshaft, which controls locking torque electro-hydraulically. Visually, vehicles with the Performance pack are distinguished solely by ‘GTI’ lettering on the red brake calipers.
The sporty character of the Golf GTI is reflected in its styling, which includes the characteristic red stripe across the honeycomb radiator grille – now also extending into the standard bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights – red-painted brake calipers, two chrome tailpipes and sports suspension. As standard, the GTI comes with 18-inch ‘Austin’ alloy wheels with 225/45 tyres, special side sills, a rear diffuser framing the exhaust pipe at either side, smoked LED rear lights and LED number plate illumination.
Interior highlights include 2Zone climate control, sports seats with the classic tartan ‘Jacara’ cloth upholstery, a black roof lining and red ambience lighting. GTI drivers will also appreciate the bespoke sports steering wheel, gear lever and instrument cluster, trim strips and stainless steel pedal caps. The standard touchscreen infotainment system also includes DAB digital radio, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity.
As well as high performance, a high level of safety equipment comes as standard in the Golf GTI. On top of high passive safety levels – thanks in part to a passenger cell made from high- and ultra-high strength steels – active safety features include the Automatic Post-Collision Braking system, which automatically applies the vehicle brakes after an accident to reduce the chances of a second impact; the pre-crash system, which tensions seatbelts and closes windows and the sunroof if an accident is likely to improve the effectiveness of the airbags; Front Assist, which warns the driver in the event of coming too close to the vehicle in front, can prime the brakes, and operates at speeds of up to 99 mph; City Emergency Braking, which can automatically brake the vehicle at speeds below 18 mph; Automatic Distance Control, a radar-operated cruise control that maintains a set distance from the vehicle in front; and seven airbags as standard, including one for the driver’s knees.
Optional equipment includes 19-inch ‘Santiago’ alloy wheels, ‘Vienna’ leather upholstery, keyless entry, High Beam Assist, Lane Assist, Park Assist (parking sensors are standard), a rear view camera, ACC Adaptive Chassis Control, touchscreen satellite navigation and a Dynaudio sound pack with 10-channel amplifier and eight speakers.

must congratulate Wayside VW in Milton Keynes for being completely clue less on the Mk7 GTI and showing no interest whatsoever in trying to sell Mrs W one today

Sounds like a great dealership. :sad1:
The problem with franchised dealers. Some of them just sell what they know, don't research or have any interest in new/forthcoming models.
-
I doubt a 3 year old new golf GTi will be £15k more like £20k
I got mine at 4 years old for £13.8K , 3 door , white , 18s (mint and refurbed) , leather , 18500 miles , 2 services and MOTs free , cambelt and waterpump done , 12 months warranty and 6 months tax , from a VW Dealer. Fair enough it was an old shape by then , but Im not sure GTIs hold their value as much as they used to.

i use a small dealer part of a larger group and they have been excellent on the last 4 cars bought, indeed they phoned us on 26 March and gave us a heads up, had some time to kill today so thought we'd try the waydarkside and they were shocking, the irony being we had visited two other parts of their group before hand, Richter in the morning who upgraded the software on Jayne's hands free kit FOC (its 4 years old) and their body shop who had both been excellent

every model will be more expensive than the old model it replaces, your mk5 is not the old golf but the old old golf.
As I pointed out all new cars prices are rising and during the model there will be increases and used car value and those cars with the desired extras will command a premium
-
these days, I believe, to most average car buyers the selling price is to some extent irrelevant. whats more important is the monthly pcp repayment.
for me, I would never consider paying £35k for a car, but pcp would allegedly be £311 a month...... which could be very tempting :surprised:

But guess who will be getting your business now? Sloppy salesmanship has lost an interested party.
Glad the smaller dealer values their business more. Let us know how you get on!!

I had the same experience with about 5 dealers last week as well Andy :fighting:

A few years ago I walked into the VW dealer in Stockport to ask about the price of a Touran which my parents were looking to buy. The salesman refused to tell me what the price would be (other than the list price) unless I signed an order form first. I just walked straight out again. I couldn't believe how uninterested they were in selling cars!
-
Decent review of the MK7 GTI in this months EVO magazine - though it is perhaps worrying that they say the MK6 is a more entertaining car.
-
The mk6 is not rubbish, I have no doubt the mk7 will be better in some ways - well you would expect so !
I opted in the end for another R and I'm not disappointed in the slightest, it's such a brilliant all rounder and the build from a mk5 is much better.
-
I am looking forward to seeing SteveP's though - the spec is pretty much what I was after and want to see the Oryx white in the sunshine - it should look ace.
-
The MK6 is far from rubbish, but the last thing it needed to be is "safer". EVO tested a manual car with the Performance Pack, which I'd have wanted to offer a more interesting drive.

I think evo said the test car didnt have the performance pack.
-
Quoted from the article: "We have a manual Performance Pack version of the car". Their car also had ACC.
-
Anyone with any sense should have the performance pack surely. Second hand there going to be a popular choice.
-

Exactly, should be a no brainer. What size are the bigger brakes, how much bigger are they over the standard ones?
-
Probably just the S3 / R brakes - should really be standard as we all know. Just a way of squeezingore money out of people are keeping the list price low.
-
Think I read that the non performance pack comes with 320mm discs and the performance pack will come with 340mm discs.
-
The performance pack has 340/30 front discs with vented at the front and the rear, whereas the non-PP has 312/25 front discs, vented at the front only.

Reviews dont come much more emphatic than that! The Mk7 (not just the GTI) seems to get fantastic reviews all over the place , I hope it sells as good as it deserves to!
