Where do you buy VCDS and can you run it on just any laptop or not? I'm not in the know with computer things, so any help would be great

I just went on the Ross- tech site, it has a list of distributers I got mine from Gendan. My laptops running windows 7

Latest version of vcds works with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and 8 (both 32-bit and 64-bit).   
Windows 95, 98, ME, and NT4 are no longer supported

I've had a look on that gendan website! So the hex-USB+can interface package is the one that will read all cars from 1995 and the Micro-CAN USB interface package is all cars from 2003? Am I right? Sorry if these questions seems daft  :laugh:
