Little :( had lots work done on the car today and it's running like a dream.
Was hoping/looking for a remap - bit extra ' :driver: but they have advised me to leave it. VERY slight wine from turbo, they said it could pop it. It's done 110k
Turbo replacement approx £900.
All this sound about right?
-
I take it that includes fitting of a standard turbo? I think they are approx £500 new then labour on top to fit. Where was this at?
-
Yea all in fitted - new.
They said they would not advise second hand ones, and the ones fitted are VERY hard to do anything with (recon/rebuild) - can you get DECENT used ones?
Little GUTTED. They said it fine, but would not advise a remap.

I went for a hybrid, expensive but worth it. I did look at overhauling my original and CR turbos were recommended. I emailed them a few times and they seemed very helpful. Drop them a line see what they say/recommend and what the price would be. You would have to remove and send off your turbo though. I believe they also do exchange
-
Think if it s making a noise then i would leave the remap for now as it will put more strain on the turbo--As Paul mentions i have a Cr turbo hybrid stage 2 and cost me £600 2nd hand but it had been checked over by cr turbos before i bought it
-
Excuse thhe dumb question..........
Whats the diff between
- a Hybrid and std ?
- and a hybrid stage 1 and stage 2?
-
Johnny an hybrid is a standard turbo that has been modified either by having the internals reworked or a bigger housing.
£900 I bang on that's what my standard turbo cost before I went hybrid the standard one lasted 2 years and always had a slight whine. So take that how you want but every VAG car I've heard have always had this noise.
Hope that helps mate

mate at work just got a recon from essex turbos at Witham.

The garage I use a just fantastic, they have never let me down and always over deliver. It is Midlands VW (legends) here is my issue. They said I have a slight wineeee and really would not advise me getting a map or anything as it may just kill off the turbo.
They also said they would never touch or recommend a hybrid turbo.
Just a little :rolleye: as to what I should look to do....
- Recon unit (2nd hand)
- Have mine refurbed
- Straight forward OEM unit new
- Hybrid new
Any tips/guidance/thoughts would really help. I'm looking summer this year. As said, have a 05 GT, is lovely but missing some power.
-
if you get a hybrid turbo you will need other mod as well.Dealer ship won't like hybrid turbo as they don't like them
-

I'm running standard exhaust and cooler with hybrid without issue. If you want more gains etc you can upgrade later if you feel the need. You do need s custom map though for definite.

Def. want a map - but I have been advised against it until I sort the turbo out.
Garage "Not faulty - just a wineeeee, we would not advise mapping until the turbo is sorted"

Yes get turbo, if standard you can get a generic map which is cheaper (I had one from Shark and it was good) If hybrid you need a custom map, I also had mine done at Shark with rolling road.
