Hey guys
Just wondering how people keep their grills black? I tried a applicator pad and it took a long time to get in all the small gaps, anyone have a easier way they do?
Cheers
-
I use AutoGlym bumper restore, But yep......Put it on a cloth and in and out of every hole, with practice only takes about 2 mins :happy2:
-
Best way IMO is clean the grill as normal, let it dry and use Autosmart smart trim just like spray paint leave it, no wiping required lasts along time aswell :happy2:
Job done in seconds !
-
303 Aeeospace Protectant for me! :happy2:
I take my grill off to clean it. Only 4 T20 screws and makes it a lot easier to clean too.
-
I too use Autosmart smart trim, but I used to use asda's own silicon tyre dressing spray it's only 2 quid a tin as well
-

Wonder if it'd fit in a typical dishwasher? Would be the ultimate lazy clean.
-
^^^^ give it a go bud, what's the worst that can happen!! :signLOL:
-
Cheers for all replies :happy2:

I hate having to clean the grills. I always think of blockbusters when i'm doing it but it makes the job no more enjoyable :fighting:

 Can I have a P please bob

I use a brush and apply dressing to the grille. Makes it easier to get into the tight corners. Then I use a microfibre to wipe each and every one in turn.

I use a microfibre to wipe each and every one in turn.
I started to do this and lost the will to live. I left it after doing about 10 hexagons.
I think I'll never get into serious detailing as I don't have the patience...I think it doesn't suit certain personality traits.
Hence my dishwasher idea...

HAHA! Nailed it there.
I've tried to do that grill so many times and failed. Dishwasher FTW.

I find it easier to take the grille off and do it indoors whilst watching TV or something.

Yeah best way :happy2:
Last time I was changing my VW badge I decided to clean and dress it and found it much more comfortable in the front room with the TV on rather than crouching on the drive
P.S. Although still takes patience :P
EDIT:
Slightly off topic but is it easy to remove the lower grill and fog grills? Would prefer to sort them in the front room also
-
The fog grilles are easy - just use a philips head screwdriver and undo the screw, then gently pull out the grilles.
No idea about centre grille - I've been told I can just yank it out but I'd prefer not to damage the paintwork. The proper way is to take the bumper off but too much hassle IMO. I have a mat to sit on and do it on the ground.
-
Ok cool.
Might do the lower grill tomorrow then when I change my headlights as the bumper will be off anyway :happy2:
-
Lower grill does just pull off ok. It can take a fair bit of tugging, but it never did any damage when I took it off. Wouldn't want to do it regularly though.
-
I always had this problem when detailing mine! I use Dr Beasleys Plastic Sealant with a mini foam applicator which fits nicely! You could just cut a sponge into a hex shape and it will work well tho!
-
Found this stuff to be the best long term solution on plastic trim, takes some time to clean and prep, but the lasting results are worth it! :happy2:

Considering getting all mine painted gloss black, main grill very dull.
Anyone else done this? Pics?
