Hey guys
I was just wondering, has anyone experienced the exhaust spitting out excessive white smoke on idle?
It seems like when the car is on idle for about 10 minutes or so, white smoke starts coming out? But afterwards when you drive it, it disappears?
It only happens on idle and when the car has been on idle for a while (e.g 10-15 minutes or so).
Car is a Golf R with full GIAC extreme tune (TBE, FMIC, HPFP, etc) and also has a Forge Catch Can

Mine does the same. Don't know what it is; something to do with electing a new pontiff maybe? That means my GTI must be a Catholic...hmmmm :confused:

but i think it may have something to do with the catch can?

Mine does the same stage 2 + revo !
Is your car used occasionally ? Or all the time ?

Its used occasionally. Not everyday like it used to. My car is also a stage 2 plus. Here's a response I got
This is going to become a common thing with people running catch cans . Ive worked out its something in the rocker cover , I havent had time to cut apart one which I have at the workshop but there is a one way valve somewhere in the cover that stops/slows oil going into the intake and when you have positive pressure from crankcase blowby it closes . Im sure someone , somewhere has had time to look into this issue ...

I put it down to lack of use and short journeys tbh, check your oil cap if there is some slight mayo its maybe down to water needing evaporated out the system and that's what the smoke is, It is more prevalent in the cold too, and if I do take the car for a a decent drive I don't get the smoke in the morning again for a while, if these are your symtoms I wouldn't worry
Take it for a propper drive I done about 240miles over a weekend and it didn't re occur for a while - at which point I was only using it twice a week over short distances. The mayo then reappeared and so did the excessive exhaust fumes, this was the same on my previous Mk5 GTI so I'm assuming its normal with a seldom used or short journey car

Oh I should of added there was no head issues and coolant always maintains a steady level, so more than likely condensation causing the mayo

I just turned the key on this morning after not driving it for about 2 weeks or so....letting it warm up...the water temp needle got to about the 8:00 position then it started to smoke again.
I checked the oil cap, no white mayo. Coolant has always been steady level and never had to top up apart from when I first took delivery of the car 2 years ago....
smelled the smoke, it didnt smell "sweet" so its probably not the coolant...and i dont think its the headgasket....(wont know unless i take the cover off i guess)
i think its to do with the forge catch can....i had a 42DD catch can before and it never used to smoke like this...

Mine does something similar (LCR 2.0TFSI CDL, APR Stage2+)
Its more like steam than white smoke though, Coolant level is fine, Alex@ AKS did mention the car did have some mayo when he serviced it a few weeks ago (gets driven to work and back roughly 12 miles a day)

what catch can system you running? Old forge system?

Uhhh thats not good.....how did your engine sound before it blew up?
I dunno if mine is an old forge system? I got it recently and i dont think its an "old" one?
Also, how do I know what engine code mine is?

Golf R, so it's probably a CDL engine code.
Hurdy just posted here about Stevie Statler running 475BHP on stock internals with the Loba hybrid Ko4, so no comparison really to the BWA internals, doesn't mean there's nothing wrong though :sad1:

You should be able to find your Engine code on the first page of the service manual in the glovebox :happy2:
