Finally got around to changing this on Sat and replaced it with a Rev G, as you can see by the pics it was absolutely knackered and I'm actually wondering now if the car has even been on full boost since I got it because Christ on a bike what a difference.....I was supposed to be getting rid later in the year but I am going to struggle now, I've just fallen in love with it all over again.

That's in shocking condition! Bet it feels like you've just had it mapped.
-
get it mapped now :-)
-
Not mapped!? Woo, got some fun to come :)
-
I did mine a couple of weeks ago, totally different car now :driver:
-
I'm having mine changed at the weekend to revision G and also a new turbo as mine has a crack in it. I'm hoping this will improve performance massively!
:D
-
I want to know if mine is 'cracked'. I have no fault codes, does this mean that my DV is still good, or can this also happen without causing faultcodes?
-
I was thinking that, how do you know when the DV is ***** or is it just advised to do it? What was your motor running like before replacement?
-
For a £35 part its worth changing as a precautionary measure, yours is probably going to be the original one (unless you've already changed it) so its well worth it IMHO.
:happy2:
-

Look at the rubber diaphragm.... if its torn you need a new one.
-
But CAN or CAN'T you see it in vcds?
-
Boost requested, Boost Actual is a good indication no doubt.
-
Is there a vague idea of what mileage these are expected to fail at? Mine's only at 60k and seems to pull lovely and strong (though I've just gone from a PD130 to a 2.0 TFSI)
-
What about if you have a rev D. Do they still split, aren't they plastic and not rubber?
Might still change it if it's recommended, especially as it's so accessible on an ed30
-
^^^^ they don't split, they leak.
-
In other words, just change it just incase :happy2:
I'll get a rev g ordered.
-
Had my new turbo fitted and new DV valve fitted last weekend. I cannot believe I have been driving round in what felt like a 1.6 litre car for over a year. When I first bought it I was quite underwhelmed with my GTI. Didn't know what all the fuss was about.
Turned out I had a HUGE crack in the turbocharger and the DV valve was ripped to shreds! There was literally nothing left of it!
Alex at AKS tuning replaced everything for me and OMFG I can't believe the difference!! Now I see why people love the GTI so much!
Big smile on my face now when driving it and i'm also thinking of going to stage 1 at R-tech very soon! :)
-
Glad to hear its all sorted.
-
I changed mine as soon as i got the car because i heard of people driving round with it just like this! mite as well change it for the plastic pistion type then you know ur safe :happy2:
-
^^^^ No.
The piston Diverter Valve (Revision D) can leak and has been superseded by the newer (and latest and stonger) diaphragm version, the Revision G. If your Revision D is fine, leave it for now but if you add more power to your car then get it changed.
:happy2:
-
ahhh thanks for that i didnt know it had been replaced again! my bad lol :ashamed:
-
Just had the most painful conversation ever with the parts guy at the local stealer, near had a stand up row about the DV and how i was going to have to buy a turbo... Why do these people get these jobs?
However im getting one ordered come pay-day even though it feels quick enough :happy2:

Might be sales staff that have filled in for someone, which will tell you any old cockslap; usually Parts (in my experience) have been pretty good and friendly too.

Not really sure what that means (sounds painful) but if your local main dealer provide this as a service they're obviously very hands on!

Unfortunately it was the parts guy that's been there 20 odd years. Stupid old sod....

Was KO3 car jacked up and reaching, was so simple.
Now this may be a stupid question and forgive me. But does the 1.9TDI mk 5 golf have a DV as well?
-
Got mine changed today, and I'm glad I did. I find the car completely different. Defiantly recommend it to people who haven't done it yet.
-
Ive been told that the DV'S have been changed yet again by VW ?
Does anyone have the part number for a MK5 GTI (Not ED30).
Thanks.
-
