Title: *SERIOUS PROBLEM*
Post by: BenJeffrey on April 01, 2013, 09:16:35 pm
Well, hopefully the title brought you here!

Have you just been to a friends house a couple of miles up the road, as I was coming home I pulled up to a junction, set off.. As I got into 2nd and just as the turbo kicked in I heard a huge pop, I wasn't driving it hard before or at the current time. I pulled over thinking that one of the boost pipes had come off but it was drivable.

Huge black clouds plummeted from the back end for miles back, making it hard to see anything at all behind. Then the oil light started flashing (The oil was fine prior to this as I checked it on yesterday morning) As I drove it the half a mile home, its was very sluggish and lumpy all the way back, but no smoke from the front end only through the exhaust.

Does anybody care to share any ideas? The car is just short of 90k miles and its a 1.9 TDi

Cheers  :happy2:

put some oil in before you drive any where or you may cause engine damage better to get the garage to come and tow you

Your turbo has just gone south, mine did the same big black plums of smoke, oil all over the back of the car. If it was just a boast pipe then the oil light wouldn't have come on...I've had the boast pipe split and it just goes into limp mode with black smoke when trying to go on boast.

I agree, new turbo needed, when you get a garage to fit a new one remind them and make sure that they clean out the intercooler etc! bits of sh*te will be everywhere

What's your turbos sting about? Making big whoosh noises :)

Don't start it up, it could run on its own oil, over-rev and bend a Conrod. Have seen this happen a LOT of times.
