Hello all!
I've had my 06 GTi DSG a year now and I'm beginning to get the 1 year itch of slight bordom, I briefly considered a new car all together but I cant get anything better than the Gti for the money! Plus I still think its the best car I've ever owned and a great all rounder...
So, I started looking into modifications and I thought I would ask opinions on here on what my options are...
I dont have too much to spend, probably looking around the £300 mark, to make my love driving again...make it faster, sound better or look better? Also it would be good if it didn't affect my insurance premium too much or have a noticeable negative impact on running costs.
I await your suggestions!

do some mods :star:
remap
new wheels
new steering wheel
new radio
-
Swap it for a manual one.
-
Have sex in it
-
^^lol
.
Revision G DV and remap it.
-
Haha I do like the sound of the sex mod...
On the remap front though, could I get a remap for my £300 budget?
I've not modified a car for years and years but I did use to like the sound an 'induction kit' made, what about one of those? Any good? Positive or negative performance? Good noise on a Gti?

Have sex in it
get a dogging sticker

IIRC, Rtech charge £250 for a custom map; couple this with a pre-cat delete, and you'll be looking at 250bhp and 300lb/ft - should put some excitment back into the car for you... this side of christening it.

^^
THIS :happy2:

A pre cat delete?
Is there something I could buy rather than just smashing out my precat with a hammer and chisel, it look like that could go pretty wrong! (Im guessing a new downpipe without the precat would be pretty pricy?)
Anyone know off hand how much Rtech charge on a call out to your house? Im in the Bournemouth area...if not I will just give them a call.
-
You don't have to do the pre-cat delete for stage one.
Thing with the GTI exhaust is that it's one section from the turbo back to the main cat, so if you get an after market down pipe, you will have to go for a main cat decat or sports cat (expensive), or have it welded to the standard system after its been cut up... Hmm
If you want the precat deleted and don't want to do your own, I'd look in the for sale section for people selling a standard exhaust system and smash it out then get it fitted... Exhaust shouldn't cost much more than 50 quid.
As said you don't necessarily need it for stage 1, afaik rtech are not a mobile tuner, they are a proper tuner with rolling road etc.

Cat back milltek! or remap
-
Got to be a stage 1 remap :happy2:
-
Love eggs :innocent:
-
Stage 1 remap is by far the best option for you in terms of gains.

theres a cheap down pipe from a Leon Cupra that will fit yours. £80 in the for sale section. You could knock the cat out of that, job done

Interesting stuff!
I think I will get a stage 1 remap from rtech as they seem good value compared to other brands like Revo and seem to still have a good reputation.
Then at a later stage, when it gets a bit warmer I might get out there with a hammer and chisel and get rid of the pre-cat.
I'm also thinking of getting some lowering springs to drop the car slightly however I don't really compromise ride comfort too much, any ideas on how much I will have to spend and any recommended springs? Ive heard h&r don't ruin the comfort, however that was written by themselves so I'm not sure how true it is!
-
I have H&R springs and the ride is only slightly harsher than stock but well worth it for the improved looks and handling :happy2:
-
Awesome, how much do they lower the car?
Any pics?
Also how much would I expect to pay for fitting? And where is a good place to buy them from?
Sorry for all the questions!
-
They lower the GTI by 30mm or so.
Thread just after I had them fitted:

I got mine as part of a group buy last year and it was £295 for the springs inc fitting and 4 wheel alignment. Not sure what current prices would be.

Buy a £300 car , something with about 40BHP and loads of rust , and drive it for 2 months , then get back into your GTI! :happy2:

£250 all in? I thought it was £295? Or I was quoted wrongly?

Pounds per smiles factor stage 1 will be the best mod you can do. Forget anything else.
