This for a mate who is having trouble with his mk5.
On the dashboard the lightbulb symbol appears.
Issues with the car as follows:
• The reverse light is not working
• The fog light is not working
• The rear wiper does not work
• The boot does not open (only opens when the car is turned off)
He has checked the lightbulbs and said they both seem fine. He has also checked the rear wiper fuse in the dashboard but it also seems fine.
Can anyone shed any light??

If there is a bulb out or a suspect bulb it will tell you on the dash when you first turn on the car and the bulb light comes on - even tells you which light is defective.
Though will all those bits not working sounds like you new someone to scan with VCDS to find out if electrical issue

its a mk5 1.4 he has so I dont think it has the same dash (ie doesnt confirm what bulb is out!)
thanks though.

I had the exact same problem last year. It's not actually a bulb problem. It was a snapped wire somewhere in the boot. My local independent diagnosed and fixed it and was only cheap :happy2:

It must be a wire as it's all items at the rear of the car.

Had this happen on mine about 6 months ago..... Turned out to be a broken wire causing all power to the boot going
If you open the boot and pull back the rubber boot top left you'll see the wiring you need to check, right hand side is where the fluid pipes for the washer are located
Was just a case of tidying up the broken wire and making a good connection then wrap in electrical tape and check there is enough slack so it doesn't get stretched
