I got a phone call today on my house phone, someone asking me a few questions from somewhere it was a bad line and I wasn't really listening to what she was saying as at that point I was too busy watching the little one pulling out DVDs and asking me questions.
Anyhoo the conversation started by the caller stating my name and address so they obviously had that info, then they asked me if I had had a sky dish attached to my house, I confirmed and said yes she then asked what kind of car I had, I said Volkswagen then the phone went dead !
It seemed to me like someone was phoneing to confirm that it was me that actually lived there and I had a Volkswagen !
( maybe they had my info from some where and they were confirming that is where my car was located and I still had it for an arranged theft )
Or did the line just go dead ?

sounds dodgy to me mate, if your unsure id report it just incase. Did you get the number or was it private?
-
It's marketing cr@p mate.. they have a little bit more info on you now. Nothing truly to worry about. Just tell them porkies next time :)
-
Yea the line was pretty crap so I was hoping it was a cut off due to the connection, the lass that called sounded Asian ?
So it could of been a call center type place ?
Yip the number was withheld.

Sounds massivley dodgey to me mate I would personally be quite concerned, sound like there after your motor to me...

Ive been having these lately on my work phone. I dont know how they get the number. I never give the number out, so nobody calls me on it :rolleye: I give as many rediculous answers as I can before they put the phone down, waste their time. Credit card companies are another PITA. im always forgetting to make payments on time and they always ring me to chase the payment.
CC Company:"Can I confirm this is Mr........ speaking?"
ME : "err no, sorry"
CC Company:"IF YOU DONT CONFIRM WHO YOU ARE, I WILL HAVE TO TERMINATE THE CALL"
ME : "Thats fine....honestly....go right ahead" :booty:
childish I know :innocent:
-
Do you have a mortgage?
If you keep missing cc payments it might be worth checking out your credit score with equifax, I missed one payment about 3 years ago and brought my rating down a little.
.
As for telephone numbers, grab a free 0845 off the net redirect to your home phone and use this if you need to use a number... Once you think it's been passed around and your getting spammed, drop it and grab another, lol, amazing how quickly those calls stop... My actual telephone number is pure gold dust, never ever used online.

Tell them you have a Skoda next time, no one will want to nick that!

I've had similar things in the past. "Hi can you just confirm your DOB and address please" as an opening line. Erm... How about no! I'd it's important, and you know who I am then write to me. Bye!
I'm sure your going to be fine but don't be afraid to answer a question with a question. :)
-
Had a few of these calls myself, usually give them a false name and made up DOB, any other questions get the answer "Sorry I can't hear you, can u speak up as my hearing aid battery is failing!"
-
Yes, they receive false details from me.
Then I take the opportunity to pretend to be a fake salesman and offer them a fantastic deal on some double glazing...
-
"Who,s speaking please"?..Just say that first, you dont like the answer,Hang Up!!!
-
Or even better pick up phone and DONT SPEAK!, they won't call back!
-
Sounds like its marketing or something then..... Ill just stick my two year old on the line next time....That ell teach em, she loves answering questions with nonsense !

Yeah that would be my first thought.. did you do a 1471?
If you felt the call was threatening you can report it to the police who can go to BT, who will provide (to the police) line traces showing the original calling number, and what company/person that phone number is registered to.
I would probably do it just in case.
