Title: My Sleeper.......
Post by: Oli on July 27, 2009, 06:51:05 pm
......and the modding has started!

I picked up my 2008/08 Edition 5 Door DSG in grey today.  It is a one owner vehicle with just 4000 miles, and as can be expected is like new inside and out.  I've had a couple of MKV's before - GTI and R32, so knew what to expect, and after the 200 mile drive home (with my mum in the car hence the MPG) I was pleased to note 30MPG and a very relaxing drive with lots of overtaking potential.  The MKV chassis is so well sorted.  Coming from a B7 RS4 avant, I missed the 4WD and the sense of occasion, and obviously the noise, but I am well chuffed with the ED30, and once the mods listed below have been carried out, the car won't be lacking in the performance department either.

Now I run my own independant garage, but we don't do many performance mods, but I always use Ed at APS as my first point of call for any info, and as usual he has come up trumps, and helped pointing me in the right dirction;

The car is booked in for a stage 2 Oettinger map next Monday, and possibly the DSG map as well.

I have Eibach springs and a carbon speed intake on order from APS.
And Charlie @ Milltek is sorting me out a full turbo back resonated system out.

And on the non- perfromance front, I have the windows being tinted next week, and the Parrot MKi9000 being fitted tomorrow.  I have ordered the front Black VW badge today.

Sorted
 :smiley:

Looking forward to the pics Oli!

Did you say resonated for the exhaust? If you go non res you will be going some way to forget the RS sound. Mine sounds bonkers!  :happy2:

 Ref the earlier comment about res or non res, I will be going resonated, as I have 3 kids, two under 3 years, so need the quieter option.

Just springs - we fitted them to a customers 5 door Ed30 recently and I thought the stance looked ace and the ride was really good, in fact hardly any difference from standard!

Post by: NB07 on July 27, 2009, 09:33:10 pm
yes i wondered if they were eibach sportline or eibach pro-kit geezer?? i think sprotlines are 30mm drop and pro-kit is 15 but sportlines are cheaper (dont ask me why lol!) i ask because ive looked at a few cars with both and was going to go inbetween with 20mm as i dont want an obvious drop but want to see pics when youve got yours on  :happy2:

How do you find the ride on sportlines?  From memory it is not too different to stock, is it??

And yes Simon does my mapping, always has

Phase 1 - Eibach springs fitted, and carbon speed intake(no pictures of this as not particularily interesting!).  My black badge turned up from the USA, however they sent the wrong one, so he has diispatched the right one a today!

The ride is just perfect, as is the noise from the intake.  More to come - re-map on moday and then full turbo back milltek in a couple of weeks.....

If its anything like my old S3 with the same map, it will be a blast.  Not loving the FWD so much in this weather, after my history of 4WD's, however it is making me re-learn my driving again, and lots of throttle feathering to get it right.
Title: Re: Its here....
Post by: Oli on August 03, 2009, 07:30:04 pm
Remap done today, and via vagcom, it measured 312BHP, and to say I'm pleased is an understatement.  I also had the torque limiters taken off the DSG, so I can utilise all the power - There will be an increased limit etc done to the gearbox, once it is available from my mapper.  It has been done to stage 2 to take advantage of the TBE Milltek when that goes on, and I'll be hoping that will free up an extra 10-15BHP!

On the road it is phenomenal, obviously very easy to induce wheel spin, but the car plus hards and linear from 2750 all the way up to 6500rpm.  60 mph seems to come around in just over 5 seconds(stopwatch, so not at all accurate!!!) providing the wheelspin is controlled.  But its the 30mph+ in gear speeds that just blow me away, and this is coming from a B7 RS4.......

I still miss the 4wd, but I'll get used to it!

10 out of 10 to Simon at Emaps as usual.

Loving it!

should look nice as greenhouse has these and its a good stance  :happy2:

most people go for these or H&R because they are lower personally i m going KW to be different, the prokit does fit our cars aswell but i think its a very tiny drop and they are more money!   :stupid:

sportlines actually make the car a few mm lower than the H&R s , the quoted drops are for lesser models not the gti which is already 15 mm lower than them :happy2:

Really pleased with the ride, not crashly at all, in fact just very slightly firmer than standard, and it seems to be getting better.

Just need to get the sh1te continental tyres changed, but at only 4000 miles, that could take some time

Indeed, no point wasting them at like 4k.
What are they - Not contisports?

Thought all continentals were reasonable tbh? I had the basic premium I's on my old Clio and they were bullet proof for the price imo.
I'm glad you said the rides not too bad. I'm really paranoid about upgrading to 18"s with aftermarket suspension and making it like a rockclimb.
Title: Re: Its here....
Post by: Oli on August 06, 2009, 02:52:23 pm
Contisports, and a load of tosh - I've always found them too hard and noisey.  They are like new, so they might be coming up for sale shortly, as Ive just never got on with them
Title: Re: Its here....
Post by: Oli on August 07, 2009, 07:04:31 pm
Right Milltek on, and the usual quality fit as always.

What a diffeerence it makes, so much more responsive, and the mid range is stronger.  Oh and the noise from the intake and exhaust is subtle but nice - if that makes sense.

No photos yet as Im off down the pub, but they will follow

Post by: rdfcpete on August 08, 2009, 06:24:09 pm
Random, but did you RR before then after to find out what it actually adds hp wise with the mid range increase? Be interesting to know as I'm coming round to the idea of Milltek.

Cheers.

I VAGCOM'd it at 312BHP before, and I will do the same after, when I get a chance, but really no need, as it has made a hell of a difference

Even on my standard ed30, the milltek Cat back made mine feel more responsive. Cant wait to see what she'll do after the Map and Spts Cat.

Since the pictures were taken, I've also added the black front badge and rear blinds.  I am also getting the front and rear lower spoliers wrapped next week in matt black - pics to follow.  I was at one point, thinking of getting the wheels painted like the BBS CH black editions however I have decided against this as I like the car just the way it looks, and to the untrained eye look like a standard edition 30, which makes it a real sleeper!

ta muchly for looking

PS. Off to SRR to see what its putting out soon - Hoping for between 320-330BHP

Do you not find that you get flat spots in the mid range where the fuelling is insufficient with the stage 2 map?

I have huge voids where the stock fuel pump just can't keep up with the rest of the game.

Just an update;

With black front badge, did not go for the wrap on the front and rear spolier, in the end.

Now that the Golf R is not happening, I am pondering the following;
S3 IC
HPFP
S3 brakes,

However I just love how the car drives, and may just go for the brakes.

Anyway here are the pics, and hopefully soon to have Monza Black Detroits, pending the PM;
