Okay finally thinking I need the RNS I have v4 map already which on MFD2 doesn't give any TMS unless I'm in Europe. My questions are...
RNS 510
1. Where is the best place to buy it?
2. I have a parrot bluetooth installed already with CAN bus cable thingy etc etc! - will I be able to use this after removing my MFD2 and replacing with RNS 510
-also should I only be looking at B version ones? and what is the main difference in getting those over the a ones?
MFD2
1. Best place to sell it?
2. What price should I expect to get for it?
I do know about ebay but really would appreciate some info from you guys who have bought from there and maybe if you have any recommedations on sellers to use or even whcih ones to steer clear of.
Cheers :happy2:

best place to buy is ebay and if the parrot is working on the canbus, i cant imagine it not workin with the rns510.
-
Cool - another thing I just thought about is - I have the CD changer in armrest would that still work? Also can you play ipod/mp3 player through the RNS or do I need a seperate fitting?
-
the CD player might work (probably)
And the Ipod will work with an MDI input, they are over 100quid i think and will replace the cd changer
-
Hmmm.. well I could look into that later I guess, the main thing is getting the RNS and selling the MFD2
-
yep...ebay is your friend! ;)
I bought from a guy in poland, make sure its new and got the code etc and the seller has got good feedback etc
-

CD player in my armrest works fine with my RNS-510.
The OEM stuff is better than the chinese RNS knockoff things.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I also have been looking at the RNS510 and WD6050 so am glad you posted the topic as you have asked exactly the same questions as I was going to.
I have one other question though. I currently have the standard stereo but have the ipod lead running to the glove box. Is this the same lead I need for the RNS510 to give me full ipod control or is it a different lead I need?
-
^^^ It will be the same lead but will need a earth wire moving on the connection into the RNS or you will get a crackly noise on the iPod connection :happy2:
-
Thanks Steve. Thats £100 saved then. Its getting more tempting by the minute.
Off to find a reputable seller!
-
so to get the ipod working with the rns510 you need another lead? and to get the blue tooth working you need a parrot?

So which one are you going for mate?

I have a parrot installed behind my current MFD2 - it uses the can bus cable and works with my steering wheel buttons, if I get the RNS will I be able to get the two working in conjunction with each other? and if I got the WD would I need my bluetooth parrot at all?
pieces of eight.. ahem (sorry)
-
I will be going with the RNS510 as reading the US forum there have been a few issues with the WD6050.
-
which version is mfd2, dvd,cd based?

DVD Based mate

i sold my Mfd2 on ebay 3 months ago for £346.
Bought a Rns510 for £480.
Both myself and Stealthwolf have bought from the same core seller on ebay, hes in the top 1000 rated sellers in germany. Expect to pay £699, that will get you a newer Version B. If you Pm Stealthwolf from here, he has the sellers name to message. He replaced my Rns with an issue no hassle, even though he sold it to my seller 6 months before!!.
great service imo.
Great unit, makes the MFD2 look 2nd division.
-
Hmm.. wish I hadn't seen teh WD5060 now - cos for some reason I want TV option now and that looks the easier an cheaper option than the RS - uhh... feck!
-
I think someone on the forum had bought the WD5060 so it would be good to find out their opinion on it now after they have had it a while
-
had a look about can't see any threads on here with a member having one - maybe I'll buy it and then If I don't like it get the RNS instead
-
what features you looking for over the mfd2?
my main feature is oem and sat nav (but not a priorty at the moment)
but for a little bit more the RNS510 seems an awesome bit of kit
-
Yea me too I'm OEM all the way - however saying that I have gone for the WD6050 via Oskar (golfmk5.com) time will tell whether it was a good choice or not - I installed igo8 on my mobile phone the other day it really is incredibly good I cannot wait to have it running on the new head unit. If it doesn't work out I'll go for the RNS until then..
