Title: Track tyres
Post by: Aparoon on April 08, 2013, 10:08:42 am
Im doing a track day at Oulton on 16th, Ive got some Yoko A048 tyres to go on but im unsure whether to bother fitting them with the weather ... Anyone any experience of them? Dont want to ruin the day if its not warm /dry enough...

Thanks,Chris

So long as it isn't pissing down, they'll be great. Lower temps = more warm up laps.

That's good to hear, I wasn't sure whether they'd be poor in this chilly weather. I was going to see how it is Monday then stick them on if its ok :-)

I used these tyres on a track day last week. You could tell they didnt have the usual amount of grip and the tyre pressures never raised as high as usual because of the temps but they were still ok. They will be ok on a wet track day as long as they are fairly new with some decent tread depth if not, good luck.  :driver:

I have them for my car and they are excellent when up to temp! I will be there trying to get my full slicks up to temp though, so i wouldnt be concerned about it. Besides by the wkend and next week they reckon weather will be hitting 20. We will see! :happy2:

As long as I can pry my half of the sticker out of the 'part worn yoko death wreck' it'll be fine

Still got the winters on at the moment

I'm going to put the normal wheels and the GY F1s back on this weekend and make a last minute decision depending on how the weather looks as to if I put the track wheels and tyres on, the federals are getting pretty low and don't seem to like the rain. Oulton. A wet Druids. Me filling my draws etc..

Yeah I do have the RSRs Mike  :happy2:

I can't fault them tbh mate, bought my first full set used and have bought 2 new ones so far, for the price and the excellent wear rate I really like them!
Seem to cope well with the chunky weight of the gti and my ham fisted driving, awesome amount of dry grip and surprisingly good in the rain, although patches of standing water at speed can get emotional...

I'd say they are at the worst in drying/greasy track after rain, but only until they are up to temp and I'd imagine that's true of most 'R' tyres tbh
