Too bad it didn't happen 30 yrs ago.
-
Like or or hate her, she stood no messing. Could do with someone with a spine in at the moment.
She took my free milk of me and my mates at school when I was a pup in the 70's . Thatcher the milk snatcher as she was known in her early days!
-
She did some good things (Falklands for one) but in the eyes of some (especially Scousers & Miners) some terrible things, she'll divide opinion for a long time yet but one thing is guaranteed she'll be remembered.
Still it's a bit sick some of the stuff being banded around, at the end of the day it's an old lady who's died of a stroke, nothing to gloat about.
-
My old man wanted to kill her for ruining this country,I'm sure if it wasn't her at the helm someone else would have done similar.
She suffered with Alzheimer's later on so I guess it put her family out of misery.
-
better her in power than the leftist Michael foot
-
at least she was strong enough to stand up for what she beleived in. Think todays lot are just in it for themselves, they change their beliefs with the direction of the wind, or what they think the voters will want to hear tomorrow.

Not to blame as much as some think.....as Secretary of State for Education at the time she actually voted against stopping the free milk, which was being proposed by the party (and others) at the time as part of education funding cuts. She instead suggested a compromise, later accepted, that milk would still be available to pupils in nursery and primary schools. Didn't stop her becoming famous as the milk snatcher though!
-
Her part in covering up the Hillsborough disaster means not many round these parts will remember her fondly

Looks like being the charts number 1 for next week.

Regardless of whether you or your family were effected positively or negatively by her policies, she had the courage of her convictions. She did good and she did bad and collateral damage was inevitable.
The time to have rejoiced (if your politics take you that way) would have been in 1990 when she left political life and not now at the time of her death.
Regarding the cost of her grand funeral, it pales into insignificance when balanced with the £billions she earned for the UK.
I feel disgusted and outraged that some people lack such respect and dignity over someone's death and funeral, whoever they were in life.
I'm looking forward to seeing it all on TV - I assume there'll be full coverage.

BBC News just announced that 2000 guests have been invited to Thatcher's funeral. Celebrities have also been invited such as Jeremy Clarkson, Shirley Bassey etc WTF??! f*ck it, why don't they invite James Cordon and JLS along for a sing song too. Celebrity culture... what a joke. This is where this country is going wrong. RIP Britain!!!
-
Clarkson was a massive That her supporter and on various bits of Top Gear has played her speeches, main one I remember was web they had to resurface a road overnight.
I think the 'celebs' probably had involvement with her or were friends
-
Hmmm might forgive them on that then! haha
Although the way it was reported and the fact they mentioned 'Celebrities that have been invited...' still rankles with me. Why mention it?

....Why should it bother you?
"Celebrities" is just a generic term to cover those invited friends/guests who don't have a more formal title but who are well known to the public.
Anyway, the media's interpretation of what/who is a celeb is pretty dodgy anyway.
-
I'd definitely agree with that Robin!
It just seems that there is no escaping 'celebrity culture'.
You pick up a paper and you have Jordan and Simon Cowell plastered all over it for some kind of blatant publicity nonsense.
The tv is more and more saturated by the notion of celebrity. Forgetting the reality programmes, you also have for example 'Victoria Wood's Nice Cup Of Tea'. Is it they can only sell it to us, if its endorsed by some celebrity? Then, they have guests on such as Morrisey and Dr Who to tell us about how to drink a cup of tea...
Now, even on the BBC, instead of reporting that there will be a funeral attended by 2000 invited guests. They had to report that celebrities such as.... will also be attending (and then showing their photos on screen). Just seems totally un-necessary to me.
Sorry, I'm just having a rant.
Robin, if you could post one of your 'lady pictures' to cheer me up, it would be very much appreciated. I won't even mind if it was of a celebrity... :signLOL:

....Yes, I would be. I'm just applauding wigit's suggestion for being very witty - I wouldn't actually contribute to such a campaign because it would make me and others no better than those I criticise.

Looking at the pictures of the "party" in Trafalgar Sq last night and nice to see the great un-washed have made the effort, seriously I actually wonder if half of rent a mob would even know who she was or were even born when she left government. Pathetic attempt to hijack any excuse to cause disruption and a waste of valuable police resources. I wonder how many times someone said "shouldn't you be out catching real criminals like rapists and peados".
Margaret Thatcher, loved in the north like Tony Blair is loved in Basra!!!!!!!

Aye the usual scruffy barstewardss who turn up at any protest , all students who like to think they are impoverished and down with the concerns of inner city Britain , but when they are finished putting Home Bargains window out or smashing up German cars , they get picked up by Mummy in her Range Rover and whisked back to their 5 bed detatched. Total and utter tossers of the highest order - I bet they wouldnt be as hard if our coppers were armed. PS Margaret Thatcher was the best PM this country has had since Winston Churchill. Tony B-liar and Gordon Clown arent fit to zip up her handbag.
-
There was some extreme Labour eejit in the press somewhere calling her a war criminal for the sinking of the Belgrano, controversial yes but nothing compared to invading a country on false pretenses resulting in the death of hundreds of British servicemen and thousands of civilians, some people cant see past their own nose end.
-
Today made me Proud to be British.
-
Ill second that, she did a lot more good than she did bad, and like it or not, we would be better off with someone like her in charge now. Rather than the arseholes that is labour. f*cked up the country within 15 years
-
.
An extremely good and fitting funeral from beginning to end. I saw the whole event on BBC.
Shame on those who felt they could not have any dignity and respect for a funeral and stay away, preferring to try to disrupt. The crowd were noble in clapping louder to drown them out.
The Bishop of London's words were perfect.
