I have a GT TDI on a 06 with 97k I removed the dpf maybe six months ago had it remapped I was just wondering if its normal for it to smoke quite heavily on start up I think I've always noticed it if I'm being honest(since the dpf was removed) but I'm not really sure it's a white smoke it only happens on start up and last about 5 seconds or so?
If I boot it it also lets smoke out but I'm guess that's normal for a remapped car
Now it is due a service but! Would that really make a difference??

Service it see what happens.
A small puff of smoke is normal on start up although excessive smoke could point to valve stem seals, or injector seals. However valve stem would normally smoke for a long time (until the engine has warmed up generally).
Especially in the cold weather the car tends to just dump a load of fuel in to aid starting, in which case it often goes out as smoke.

Normal for a little cloud when you first start up in the morning, but if it continues past that or when you pull off in traffic then you may have a more serious problem.

if it starts up roughly as well, could be a glow plug gone, then when it does fire up the excess deisel will come out as white smoke. When flooring it, it should be black smoke.

sounds normal to me tbh if its only lasting around 5 seconds i wouldnt worry about it IMO :happy2:

Seems quite common tbh, mine gives a puff of smoke for a few seconds on initial start up then after it seems to run pretty clean. Specialist said don't worry about it when I inquired about it as its not out of the ordinary for a diesel.
