Took a trip to R-tech today for a custom stage 1 map and i am very impressed. The golf pulls like anything now

R tech by the sounds of it are the only place to go, once I get my gti a trip down there might have to happen at some point. Just out of curiosity how long does all the health checks and mapping take? Just I've never been involved in this kinda thing before.

I was there for a couple of hours, it's not like some of these places that plug a computer in, 5 mins later off you go. Nick's team will check out your boost hoses, DV etc and then will do a stock run, and several other dyno runs as Nick perfects your map

Always good practise to bring the guys some biscuits  :happy2:

Title: Re: Should of done it sooner!

You don't need to change anything. Just check everything is in good working order and replaced if necessary.

For the price that was mentioned earlier I wouldnt be asking for any discounts, especially when you think of the level of service offerd for less than the price of a bluefin and less than half the price of a revo map.

Reading this is making me seriously consider making the 900 mile round trip for a decent map.

Don't be cheapskates, £290 is cheap as it is with the knowledge Nick has on these engines..

so that's 3 so far (not that this is confirmed by Nick)
i understand nick and his staffs  knowledge is excellent
was just looking to save a little if poss in a group buy
its not local to me Hinckley
so will cost to get there and back and yes same for everyone

was just thinking if we have group buys for miltek or revo or bluefin etc...
i guess they are more expensive but still a group buy and every little discount always helps

i don't want to upset nick or any board members or start off on the wrong foot
just thought it would be ok to ask or test the water

Maybe speak to Nick, perhaps he would be willing to do a load of cars in one day but if I remember correctly (and tbh I probably don't  :signLOL: :signLOL:) there was talk on uk-mkivs (the main forum I use) about a group buy.

Nick wouldn't do group buys because a) the time taken to properly do a car would not leave a lot of people to get done b) there's always someone who's got a boost leak or duff N75 which causes problems and c) He felt the cost was already good.

If it helps swing anything I paid £300 for my custom R-tech map 2 years ago, and the map Darkside put on it cost £400 PLUS vat.
I know some companies charge double that!  :ashamed:

A ) i guess it takes 2/3 hours a car then 3 cars a day makes 9 hours plus tea breaks etc.....
so time wise 3 cars a day so maybe group buy is not poss

C )He felt the cost was already good

i also think £290 is fair price when you look at others Companies mention no names
and nicks knowledge and skills plus many satisfied customers from many forums

Seriously thinking of getting mine done here... £290 is a very good price. Just one question maybe someone could answer, what happens if you disconnect the battery do you loose the the map/settings as knowing my luck my battery would fail a week after.

No you won't lose the map. Settings only relevant to Revo maps  :happy2:

Saint Steve has had his done today and will no doubt be on here shortly to write up his experience

Great that is good to hear as apart from the cost it always put me off having the Revo... as good as it is that would really pi## me off having to get the settings adjusted at my cost again.

Would like to here how the two guys got on getting them done today  Probably out enjoying the drive....

Sorry guys no flash and go group buys here its more about quality than quantity with the R-Tech name.

Each stage1 / 2 booking slot gets a 3 hour window to check the car out and to map and test, some cases with logging and fault finding this window could roll into 4-5hours.   Stage3 and live maps get a 15-20hour booking time.

Nick

PS

To the OP, Thank you for the feedback, keep me updated and let me know about your lower pressure resolve. I have been talking to Alex from AKS over on fb about it.

im still very curious about this potential problem with the clutch slip and if its anything to be worried about?
