Title: RNS-510.....so what's missing?
Post by: VC on July 29, 2009, 11:51:16 am
So my lithuanian unit has arrived. I have the V4 map disc and the gps antenna

I know I need the manual so this is a dealer sourced item I'm guessing, if so does anyone have the part number?

But what else do I need? I have I the iPhone I want to use with it too so there's gotta be cables and microphones I need to get it altogether

I want to get all the bits together so I can get everything fitted all at once  :happy2:

it's a version B btw and if anyones looking for an avic f900 then I'm your man   it will be in the classifieds when it's out

VC, how are you gonna set up the RNS 510 along with your music system? Iv got an RNS 510 sat at home as i replaced it with my DNX 7200 but would much rather use the RNS 510

VC, I presume you want to use the iPhone for both music and telephone?

For music the MDI cable is about the best option as it allows touchscreen control of the music. Otherwise just get the Aux In cable.

As for phone there a a few options, either the OEM bluetooth (from VrStu if he still sells them) or the FISCON bluetooth are my favorites.

Is this mdi cable sourced through Vw?

I will google the other thing when I get home

the avic I have has it's own mic and does all this stuff automatically I must be mad

My local dealer were doing MDI cables fitted for £200.

I asked about just the cable and it was £135 at the start of the year.

You will then need an interconnect between MDI and device whether that be fruit based or USB stick, etc.

It also might be worth looking at the pinouts on the back as I believe there are line-outs available.

From Stu's website.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.octavia-vrs.com%2Fimages%2Fimages%2Fmfd2%2Fmfd2_auxinput.jpg&hash=0161375eaa0e4762b4f8b898e730263ba9f793e2)

Top left pins show LO-R, LO-L and Line ground. Don't know of anyone using them but it might be worth a punt.

^^^ The anti-link stuff is stopping the picture's displaying

You can configure the RNS-510 to output low level but changing the coding but getting something like the cleansweep or blaupunkt would be best IMHO
