Title: Cost of resetting airbag warning light
Post by: andyR43 on April 14, 2013, 09:43:04 pm
Fitted some Recaro seats to the front of the Golf and, as they don't have airbags, my airbag fault light is now on. I'm going to pop down to the main dealers to get the lights reset and was wondering what sort of price they would probably hit me with. Anyone got any ideas as to what I should be paying? :scared:

You need to either get them coded out or Recaro do a special plug to bypass your lack of airbags.

dont you have to use a resistor to stop the air bag light coming on

Okay update time. I went to the VW main dealers in Yeovil and, like Amy Winehouse, they said no, no, no! They also said if it could be done then they wouldn't due to insurance reasons.

Went to a diagnostics place and they said they can't be coded out.

Went to Autotechnics in Gillingham, Dorset and they spoke to the man from Bosch I believe. He said the original coding cant be changed as the airbag coding is  one time only. He also said off the record that the only way to get over it would be to fit 2.5-3 Ohm resistors into the airbag circuit to fool the car into thinking that the airbags were still there.

Looks like that is the only way forward so if anybody can explain how I go about this then your help would be much appreciated.  :happy2: I'm assuming I would have to connect the resistors to the yellow airbag connectors under the seats but which wires do i connect to as there are 3?

Cheers for that Sam  :happy2: Do you know which wires I connect the resistor to as there are 3 wires going to the connector, Green, White and Brown.
