Title: Wing mirror indicator
Post by: Ranbeer Singh on April 15, 2013, 10:38:32 pm
Hi all,

My drivers side wing mirror indicator has stopped working. Can anyone advise on how to fix this? I have searched the topic but have not been able to find anything.

Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing the LEDs have gone - if so the best place I found to get a replacement is VW

Or use it as an excuse to swap them over for the Inpro smoked indicators :happy2:

Thanks chaps...

Anyone know the costs involved?

Is it an easy fix or shall I leave it with the dealers?

So i dont have ti take the entire wing mirror off? I'm presuming the actual lens clips out with a screwdriver?

^^^^ here's a guide for you (click the link) on changing the indicators. Its not a big deal, once you've done one, you'll fly through the second one. As mentioned, get some smoked repeaters (indicators) while your at it.

InPro who made the smoked indicator lens went out of business a couple of years ago so finding new ones anywhere will be a great achievement.

Inpro ones are hard to find (rarer than rocking horse do do), couple of links below, both from the USA,' bought mine from one of these companies but can't remember which.

InPro smoked repeaters/indicators (same as mine in the pic above).....

Or non Inpro ones from parts4euro.com (below), I've used them a fair bit and have had no problems but others have had with delays and bad communications.

They seem to go faulty gradually.

My left one started to go dim. Still flashed but barely visible in daylight. Replaced for about £13 ish (I think) from VW.
My right seems to be on its way out. In cold/damp weather it does 1/2 bright / full bright / off / 1/2 bright / full bright / off......

Both showed the same faults through VAG-COM.

I had a look at opening the passenger one up to change the LED's. Smashed it to smitherines in the process. Strong adhesive and very brittle.

Thanks for the info.... these do seem to be a problem and maybe a bit too tricky for me to fix... Rang my local rip off dealer and they have quoted about £90 to replace one! Anyone know where I can get these sorted cheaper?

Do it yourself. Just follow the guide Martin (MC71) linked on pg1. I followed that guide when changing mine :happy2:

Just called Listers Nuneaton for part price:

Left:   1K0 949 101
Right: 1K0 949 102

Both are £24.49ea inc VAT.

Fit it yourself! It isn't a difficult thing to do (as others here have stated).

I bought a 300mm long T8 torx screw driver off ebay, then its easy to do with everything in situ, just have to prise the cover off gently, tilt the glass out so there is enough access to the 2 screws that need removing, unplug power socket and replace with new unit. Take it slowly, worth a go, if you get stuck, then take to £90 a side dealer.

I literally did this yesterday on the girlfriends EOS, same mirrors!

Easy to do, took me 20 mins max!

That guide is exactly what I did but you dont need to unplug the mirror or motor!
