Title: Grinding/Scraping.. clutch or gearbox?
Post by: Palooza on April 16, 2013, 04:45:49 pm
Hi, I've gained a noise on my car when I'm depressing the clutch in neutral.

It only happens when the car is cold and if you hold the clutch pedal halfwayish there is a scraping/grinding/rattling sort of sound that stays until you move the clutch pedal. It doesn't happen when changing gears or when the cars hot.

Any ideas what it could be?

Joe

Clutch release bearing? My 2004 civic started suffering from a whirring sound when in neutral with the clutch up, but that turned out to be the gearbox input shaft bearing.

A friend suggested that to me, and when I went to my most local garage I got told to leave it and the problem taking it to a different garage is that when the cars warm it dissapears so Ii can't show it them :/

any other ways to tell?
