I know this has probably already been asked several times before but just want a simple and straight forward answer with no debates! I am in the process of buying a set of audi a3 3.2 quattro calipers, carriers, and discs for a bargain. Apart from what I have listed what else do I need to enable them to fit to my golf mk5 gti and is it a straight forward swap. Ive read before that some people have fitted the 55mm hubs, brake lines, and 55mm strut adapters for the coilovers. My car is lowered on AP coilovers and currently had the standard 17" Monza alloy so not sure if that will make a difference. If anyone could shed some light on this I would appreciate it. Cheers.

You have a GTI so already have the right hubs.
You just need the brake calipers/carriers/discs/pads then a new stoneguard plate thingmy, and the correct hoses as your current ones are no use.
They'll sit under the 17" OEM alloys...just.

Cheers for the reply. Hes throwing in the brake hoses and splash guards aswell now. Are the hoses just a case of un-clipping mine and attach the new ones? Also I am going to get them powder coated so I will be stripping them down before fitting. Will I need to get new seals and pistons?
-
If you are unsure of anything then I Suggest you take it to a garage fella.
-
Yes if you get them powdercoated you'd need new seals and what not..
You need the brake hose, calipers, carriers, discs and pads chap. As mentioned if you are not 100% confident get a garage to do it, not really any more in depth than a regular brake change anyway. :innocent:

Are we talking front only or also rears?
If fronts only it a no brainer, just dismantle the outer part of the caliper and get it painted, og spares needed.
Regarding the rears it's a specialistjob and then you should get in touch with "brakecaliperrefurb" for the rebuild :happy2:

Here's a great brake upgrade for your car. Please note I have nothing to do with the seller.

Grab a set of Cupra ones if you don't want the expensive of painting them... as they are already red. :happy2:
IIRC the only ones I'd bother with over the Cupra, would be the S3 as they are a bit lighter.
Holy sh!t that 6pot setup is SERIOUSLY well priced!

Do you have any info as to why the S3 is lighter?
Looking at them the S3 should be heavier due to the balancing "knobs" on the inside of them, equal in weight maybe but not lighter

Its the front setup that I am talking about and as far as I am aware the S3/R32/GOLF R/CUPRA/A3 3.2 QUATTRO all have the same calipers. The only difference is the colour and the retaining clip? I may be wrong but thats what I have been told.

you are informed correctly, and the painted part is easily removed and paint, no need to refurb the rest of the calipers for that :happy2:

Sound then. Saves me spending more money that i have not got refurbing them. I do need to get hold of some s3 or golf r retaining clips though. Does anyone know of anywhere apart the stealers to get them from?
-
Just to double check to I need the splash guards aswell for the complete conversion?
-
Bump. Need help?

You never "need" splash guards they are not a mandatory part for fitting of the brakes.
Yes you should have them but you don't NEED them..

With What...Just done this 3.2 conversion on Saturday,be quick while its still fresh in my memory.
Only problem I had was with the wrong parts, S3 calipers are NOT exactly the same, in that S3 pads and S3 retaining Badges will not be secure on 3.2 calipers, you will need the pads with a retaining clip on all four pads( S3 have only one clip on inside pad), that way you can use the S3/R caliper badges on 3.2 calipers.
With Genuine S3 Pads(pic without R badge,no outside pad clip), slot in middle of caliper(under R logo) not present on S3/R calipers

Sir, I thankyou for the help. Just need mine fitted and sitting pretty like yours. Have you got the part numbers for the pads? and did you buy the golf r retaining clips from the stealers? if so what did they set you back?
-
Just to be clear..
What pads / caliper combo did you end u using?
S3 calipers / r32 pads / r clips?
I have s3 calipers and s3 clips so I guess I should use s3 pads rather than r32 pads?

Parts used
Pads. 1ko 698 151B
Calipers are 3.2
Clips are Golf R, all parts were from TPS, R clips cost just short of £60, madness but i wanted them... pads were £51.80, but of a bonus coz the S3 pads I had originally were £95.
Can get all the other part numbers and prices later if you like( shields, lines, discs ect.
Very easy conversion having done it now with the correct parts and makes the eddy very assured, what it should have had on from factory.
