Title: Spluttering gti under load SOLVED.
Post by: rich golf gti mk5 on April 20, 2013, 08:23:49 pm
Hi all had nothing but problems from day 1 n now I've had car for about 5 week. Right were do I start 1 st of all I replaced dv and that increased my power by loads as it was completely knackered then cam follower then a coil pack then maf sensor then my live wire goin to maf was dead so got that fixed now when u put your foot down it will splutter or misfire then take off until next gear then same again. If you give it a bit of welly for a min or 2 it will cut power and go into limp mode turn engine off then it's ok til u put foot down again. Take maf sensor out no spluttering but still goes into limp mode. I've reset engine Managment n no codes are back on even tho problems still persist. Really need this fixing any advice.

You have VCDS.. I suggest you Copy up your fault codes. :happy2:

Then peeps might be able to help you better. :happy2:

Are you remapped? Does the car do this in Stock mode?

If no codes are showing, it could well be a mechanical issue or spark plugs as this wouldn't show up in VCDS errors either.

Car shouldn't smell of fuel.. They run rich on start up, so you might smell it via exhaust from cold.. As long as your oil isn a wash with fuel! You could log the MAF reading which will give u approx Hp output by multiplying the readings by by 0.80.

Have you checked the PCV valve?

it will be your plugs (which you should replace if they've not been done in the last 10k miles) or, failing that, a dodgy coil pack (replace). I've had the problem twice (misfire when accelerating) first time it was plugs, second time a coil pack  :happy2:

Well.. bit of an odd one. Usually spark related misfires are logged in the ECU.

also if it was sparkplugs coil packs wouldnt it do it all the time ? drives perfect if your driving like miss daisy but as soon as u put foot down splutter splutter then  take off . dont no weither its my paranoa but im sure i can smell sum sort of burning meltinting smell

The boost could be blowing out the spark, maybe worth reducing the spark plug gap? 0.6mm may be worth a try

If its just under engine load it will be plugs. The coilpacks would misfire under any load if they were faulty. I had this issue and plugs fixed it. It would be worth fitting the latest revision pcv valve as a preventative measure too.

it will be your plugs (which you should replace if they've not been done in the last 10k miles) or, failing that, a dodgy coil pack (replace). I've had the problem twice (misfire when accelerating) first time it was plugs, second time a coil pack  :happy2:

This is why VW recommends a service interval of 40k miles for the spark plugs  :signLOL:

Have you changed your plugs... I had this after 5k miles following a main dealer service where they were supposed to change plugs...

Plugs hadn't been changed... Probably original plugs... Fault reading found no faults... As plugs don't give gAults like a coil pack will...

done the dipstick test and it runs poorly with it out so I presume that's ok.

Run a VCDS scan, a fault code is usually logged when it goes into limp mode!

It could be many things. It could be a faulty n75 valve that deals with the boost. Though id perhaps take it to a garage to diagnose rather than guessing what it might be.
