Title: CMOS 300 kenwood reverse camera
Post by: LondonGT on April 22, 2013, 03:40:16 pm
Has anyone fitted one of these to a mk5?

Long story, I need to get a reverse camera fitted, like the idea of the features it offers but can't see how one gets fitted without drilling holes?

Thanks

I had number plate cameras on my old car, no holes to drill and replaces a number plate light unit

Can you remember what the brand was and if it was any good? I've seen lots of those but very different ones. I like the functionality of the Kenwood one, but not enough to chop up the bumper. Thanks!

Just a Chinese one on ebay. I guess the Kenwood is overpriced, plus CMOS is bad compared to CCD.

They're ok for a while, eventually the perspex will get stone chipped and either marr the view or let in condensation. The LED lights usually die after a year, and some come with stupid and unusable reference lines.
But for £10-15 I accepted that.

that's what is confusing me. i like the wide angle view of the kenwood, not bothered about the park help. I don't think i need night vision....i have reverse lights.

180 quid seems a bit steep though, esp as that seems to include a hole in the bumper. I've looked at the integrated number plate light ones, can live with that, but would ideally like to not have to swap out every few years.

Got my VW camera for about £120ish including loom and brackets but will need to dremel my bumper!

Cheers for the tip on CCD, hadn't spotted the resolution difference.

What's the VW one you got? The only one I could see was in the badge and only works with the original kit. I have the dnx520 so not sure that's an option for me.

Its one that sits in the bumper so you have got to dremel it! Not sure if it will work with your headunit though!

Im after the one that sits in the bumper too, I think its the scirocco one. However a member from the forum said that it might be a bit too low.

it will be low as it points downward.

have seen this one, which is a vertical

I think the vertical mount would work with the scirocco camera

That seems better. But at that price wouldnt it be better to get the badge camera instead?

read what I wrote

I said find the holder and use the scirocco camera

The part number for the vertical mount is 2H0 980 561 & 2H0 980 554

comes in at under £10

Iv ordered 3w0 807 210 B and 3w0 807 151. Might need to re-order the bits!

So that one you need to screw into the bumper too?

I found a ccd one for about 70 quid that fits in the plate light socket. Might just go for that. I like the kenwood but for the effort and cost it's not great.

One thing I am unable to find is any pictures on mark 5s, for any cameras.

The parts i ordered put the camera out at a 45 degree angle so the bumper needs to be cut in the centre between the 2 number plate lights to fit it in

I've ordered a Sony CCD one for the number plate light. Hope to fit it in the next few weeks so will report back with pics. Thanks for the advice, looks much better idea than. The kenwood and less than a third the cost.

I just picked up a new kenwood HU and have been looking at cameras, but can't justify spending the amount on a CMOS 210 or 310. Which Sony one did you order??

Thanks

Google LST-C2128
It's the one on hids4u
Haven't fitted it yet and it wasn't the cheapest necessarily but I found a discount code online somewhere that gave 10% off at the checkout
Looking at it now it arrived its not too bad, smaller than I expected so top to bottom of the camera blob bit about an 3/4 an inch.
No idea when I will get it done, some busy weekends coming up but hoping before the end of May.
To be clear it has a Sony chip apparently, still made by small hands in china somewhere judging by the box.

Sorry to piss on your chips bud however that camera is the same as the £12 one you'll get on ebay. Is it too late to return it?

What I did was instead of chopping/hacking into the number plate loom, I got repair wires and a (female?) plug and soldered that into the camera wires, it makes it literally plug'n'play and leaves no trace or damage to factory wires should you remove the camera.

Yeah I saw the cheap ones but either a job lot or weeks for delivery. Last time I ordered something from china it took two months. Meh.

Good idea on the wires, cheers

I'd bin the video cable that comes with your camera and replace it with this shielded one
