Title: Help with GTi bi xenon headlight, seems to flicker when driving
Post by: Jakesangel on April 24, 2013, 11:33:01 am
Hi guys,

New to this forum so apologies if this topic has been covered before.

We have just bought a mk5 GTi and it appears to have Bi-Xenon headlights (i think thats what they are called)

Anyway, my wife was following me in the car last night and I noticed the passenger side headlight appeared to look more bright at times and can be best described as a sort of flickering. It gave the impression that the left headlight only was being "flashed" by my wife, which it obviously wasn't.

Can anyone shed any light, no pun intended on this subject. The car is under warranty and I spoke to the dealer this morning and he is happy to take a look at it but any information I can forearm myself with would be beneficial.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys may be able to offer

I'd say it may be one the ballasts that is causing the issue with the difference in colour. Try swapping the bulb from one side to the other to see if the problem switches sides. If it does you'd need a new bulb. If not, it is most likely a ballast or ignitor issue.

Thanks Mk5Dom for responding so quickly. I really appreciate it. I'm going back to the dealer tomorrow so hopefully they can sort it the same day.

Cheers again
