Title: Anyone driven a 61 plate GTD manual?
Post by: celica on April 24, 2013, 11:54:20 am
I got to drive one briefly
Nice striking motor, but the gear shift seemed long a bit sloppy, how does it compare to manual gti of mk5,6 etc?

I've driven a manual MK6 GTD, don't remember what plate it was on though. Also don't remember the gear change being much different to my 2006 GTI...

Was it a dealership car?

I drove a 12 plate GTD at a VW dealer, very good car no problems with the gear change

Driven the GTD with DSG, and was the 2nd best Golf derivative I've driven :happy2:

I drive my 12 plate GTD every day! I do remember it took a week or so to get used to the gear change from my previous mk5 GTI - I kept picking the clutch up too early before second gear had fully engaged.

I've got a 60 plate scirocco with the same engine / gear box. It's not quite as slick as the GTI shift, but typically smooth VW all the same. An Audi TTS shifter will improve things even more  :jumpmove:

I just imagined it to be more sporty, it was smooth and slick enough, but not as direct and short as I would like from a sporty setup car

I've only driven a mk5 gti manual years ago shortly and come to think about it I think it was slightly better

So you can just plug and play with audi tts shifter linkage?

I've got a 2010 A3 170PS 2.0TDI Manual if any good to you for info? (Same engine).

The gear change is fine, nothing noticeably different from any Mk5 Golf TDI I've driven.
It notches back out in 3rd and 4th sometimes with fast changes, unlike my MK5 GTI did but some of that might be down to driver haste if I was honest.

Certainly drive one and give it beans between the key gears once warm to make your own assessment  :happy2:
