Title: RNS 510 Installing Line Level Converter being told different things. + RCA Quest
Post by: Ryanedition30 on April 24, 2013, 12:18:43 pm
Hello everyone, Im installing my stealth sub tonight and ill be posting pics step by step as i do.

Ive got a line level converter as the RNS510 does not have any pre outs.

I heard its best to take a feed from the Front Speakers as the rears have some sound filtered, however the seller says take it from the rear speaker at the rear speaker.

I was going to take the feed from the headunit.

Just wanted everyones Opinion before i do.

Also Can I just join the Converter onto the wire as I don't want to loose a speaker.

And finally, Where has everyone else taken their RCA feed from?

Thanks in advance.

Ryan

Ive spoken to a few people who have subs put in with an rns unit, and they've taken feed from the rear speakers.

Yeah the RCA is taken from the rear speaker, not the head unit end but at the speaker.

Let me see if i can find the correct adapters

I spliced one of the front speakers from the back of RNS so that i could run the RCA down past the gearstick and to the amp under the passenger seat. Worked a treat for me. Also ran a remote switch from the ciggy sockets using one of the spare buttons by the ESP and a cheap switch from maplin so that i can turn off the Sub when listening to footie  :happy2:

Well if you take a line off the ciggy then this only activates when the ignition is on anyway... that's what i did but with the series wired switch to enable it to be turned off too.

Only reason i went with the fronts was instinct not sure what the difference would be

Quick question.. does the cigerette lighter in the boot only become active when the car is on too?

Mine is powered only with the ignition on...

Sorry do dig up an old-ish thread. Do you splice into one side (left or right) of speakers or both sides (left and right)?

Iv got a line out converter running off both rear speakers but im getting some vocals coming out of the sub

I spliced mine into just one - front left i think. The vocals on the sub should be filtered out with the amp.

If your amp supports high level input then forget your converters etc just run the speaker writes straight to your amp, see my ancient audio install by squeekuk
