Title: RCD510 code
Post by: nads1_uk on April 24, 2013, 02:34:07 pm
I currently have a rcd510 in my car that I'm going to remove when I find a rns510. What do I need the get the code from the dealers?  Also how much does it cost?

Most dealers will do it FOC.
They'll probably need your VIN number and the serial number of the radio.

However if its not factory fitted they may turn their noses up.

Well they should do...otherwise what's the point of having codes.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying. You could still have a second hand RNS/RCD unit legitimately, although lets face it most aren't.
For instance your mate sells you his RNS510 out of his Mk6 which he specced from factory, but then chooses to upgrade to an aftermarket unit, then realises he has lost his code card. That was the scenario I was trying to manipulate.

Yeah this can happen but if VW just give out the codes then I don't see the point of having them.

Vw don't supply codes with car anymore like they used to ...if its fitted as standard in your car then they will do it over phone with vin details and radio serial number of top or side of unit for £15 ... they will do a radio that is not from your car but you need the vin details of the original car it was fitted too ...sometimes not easy as it could of been fitted to a couple of cars ..as said some dealers will do it free but most won't its a bit hit or miss
