Title: Unreliable GTI
Post by: webby888 on April 24, 2013, 07:13:40 pm
Iv owned my GTI for just over a year now and it is such a love hate relationship!! i love the looks and the way it drives but the problems OMG!

in the first year i have replaced

abs pump
crank position sensor
back left abs sensor
back right abs sensor
2 wheel bearings
brake caliper
disc and pads all round
4 tyres

along with the usual service tax and mot.

Its the most expensive car iv had to maintain and run and im starting to think is it worth it??

My old car was an RX8 and that seemed good value in comparison!

I've had mine for the same length of time and I've only needed tyres.

I suppose there's an element of luck in buying any second hand car; no matter how much you check a car you can't tell if absolutely everything's spot on.

as above can never tell with second hand cars but half that stuff you listed sounds just like general maintenance to me if I am not mistaken

Ive had mine two and a half years and ~50,000 miles. All its cost me is beyond routine maintenance/tyres/petrol/tax etc is a £400 Throttle Body.
