Hey guys just wondering what this noise might be...any ideas but bascially....my
Mk5 golf GTI rattle(heat sheild vibration sounds)when letting go of pedal,so when letting of boost.
cheers

I have the same noise since fitting my downpipe

My Milltek back-box is mounted a little on the high side. (Reallty couldn't be a75ed to take it off again)
It rattles sometimes at low revs, over occasional bumps and sometimes when I close the boot.
It will more than likely be the exhaust rattling against it. Remember the exhaust will move with the engine as it varies revs.

Cheers guys but I'm a little worrid it might be the turbo?acuator possibly?
Cheers

I had a fault in the valve on the wastegate. I don't think it's the same as the symptons sound slightly different These are the symptons I had and so should eliminate the fault I had:
It was easiest to test while coasting downhill, at fairly low revs so no on boost I guess, in gear but foot off all pedals, so engine braking and a rattle. VW replaced the turbo under warranty.

I have a vibration/grinding noise that is most noticeable in similar circumstances as you mention above. I have noticed no difference in the cars performance what so ever but the noise is driving me mad. Someone mentioned that is could be types (Pirelli p zero's) as they are close ish to the tread bars and apparently this is a known issue but I have heard nothing about this. I'm hoping this is not a turbo problem- how long do Vw cover these items as I have an 07 ed 30 with 51k.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks.

I have vw warranty that I pay for monthly otherwise the turbo would not be covered.

I had the same on mines, it was the mount holding the downpipe was loose. Get a look underneath and see if theres any play in that area.

Just a update as ive just seen this again,i had to replace the turbo as the wastegate accuator (inside end) had a lot of play in it.. :surprised:
But all is good now that i have replaced it.
:happy2:
Hope this helps guys!

I have this noise but it sounds like it's coming from behind the fabric in the bulkhead.
Not coming from exhaust/downpipe.
Probably the metallic heatsheidling tbh.
The car boosts to 12-13psi and pulls back to 7-8 at the redline.
Idles at -20inHg.
Don't think it's actuator related.

How much did it cost you? turbo replacement?

Hello mate,
i won a newish turbo with low miles for £80 on ebay and i fitted it by a mate for 150 as i didnt have time to do it myself. So overall cost of £230.
