Title: RCD510 always dimmed?
Post by: paulw123 on April 29, 2013, 11:31:44 am
Is there any reason why my RCD510 is always fully dimmed, even though i have set it to the brightest level? it used to work ok.
Once it started up bright , and then dimmed itself as i drove along......

Someone suggested it is related to battery condition?

Do you know what the very small hole is on the rcd510 facia in top lh corner? as i have covered this with my parrot, its not some sort of daylight sensor is it?

The daylight sensor is a very small little circle in the top right hand corner, not left. There shouldn't be any holes in the top left.

I've got an RNS not RCD but the options are very similar, have you tried going into setup and changing the day/night setting to day rather than automatic or night?

Sorry, i mean't rh corner.
Are you 100% sure its a daylight sensor? i don't remember reading about it in the instructions. How is it supposed to work?

Just pulled the parrot off to uncover little hole, and full brightness is back, could'nt find any system settings on rcd510. Looks like another sticky pad needed, extortionate £1.78 each from Halfrauds.

Glad you've fixed it. The daylight sensor must have dimmed the screen because it thought it was night! I think on cars with automatic lights the car over-rides the RNS/RCDs own sensor. I've never really noticed the brightness changing, however on my RNS the maps go to a black background when it is dark.
