Title: 2006 3dr Reflex GTi *Intro*
Post by: MightyMullet on April 29, 2013, 12:50:51 pm
Right ive been knocking around this forum as a member for a while now and as a visitor even longer. I dont think theres a way of better introducing myself than in a build thread so here goes

My name is Sam, im 24 and i live here
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk617%2FM1ghtyMullet%2F879b6b0a9b8db74198bdba19ad7f0ade.jpg&hash=c56676d5173994aa6181c37a799a00c8f8239023)

We Cornish are an odd bunch but one thing is certain, we bloody love our VW's  :happy2:

My car history is all french sadly but the last one was an insane amount of fun,

This is my 140bhp 106 GTi, it weighed just 920kg so as you can imagine it was good fun  :driver:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk617%2FM1ghtyMullet%2F323598db.jpg&hash=219a8a35e359f0634a6d08824520681b619686d1)

.........Oh yeah, i forgot to add, it also had silly doors. They were on the car when i bought it (cheap as it was f*cked) and my original plan was to remove them but they were fun

The problem with this was (believe it or not) it was always broken so i used my girlfriends car while it i was repairing it,
It wasnt a bad run around, fullSS, panel filter samco hoses, lowered and Borbet A's.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk617%2FM1ghtyMullet%2F1d527f4d.jpg&hash=e4c77d843c4bf73bc7099eaf95aaec8148655cad)

Sadly it looks sh*te in these pics but there all ive got lmao

This had 225k on th clocks and never skipped a beat, its a rare colour and it was in superb condition (when it was polished)

Anyway, enough of the old sh*te, in with the new.
Me and my partner decided to get a mk5 between us for now, and after searching for a while we found one at our local VW and to put a long story short, we bought it on christmas eve,

Went and weighed it and its a heavy old brute, 1360kg
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FM1ghtyMullet%2FMk5_GTi%2F2870486e1d9b8ca3e08d22372f884bde.jpg&hash=837be7d4f732c964413ddd4f44c32d39623517af)

sh*t iPhone pics but we all know what a standard mk5 looks like.

Specs :-
- 36k miles, FVWSH
-iPod connection
-Lux pack 1

Not high spec but its certainly a step up from a 106 and a mk2.

Im not modding straight off as im waiting for my warranty to run out, plus im getting married next year which turns out to be expensive, however i will when i can, hopefully for players (September)

My plans are:-
-silly lows
-silly stretch (As i know how you guys love that sort of thing)
-Induction kit
-Full SS
-FMIC
-re-map (R-Tech ideally)
-Double din headunit
-retrofit Cruise
-retrofit Armrest

Thats it for now but im sure the plans will change the more i hang around here  :scared: :happy2:

Cheers for reading  :drinking:

Also megs 'ultimate quick detailer' and megs 'ultimate quick wax'

The bag was on the Bay for about £12 ish i think, pretty heavy duty and has velcro on the bottom and the back of it  :happy2:

Thank you for the love guys, it is awesome although im starting to need a bit more go  :sad1: i went to Audi a couple of days ago and picked up a rev G, will put it on soon, but i dont really think there is a boost leak as it does pull well, however the whistle is very noisy so it could be worth ago.

Yeah really chuffed with it and the silver really is a gorgeous colour, with the mileage being so low it ended up being more than i wanted to spend but im glad we did.

My mate took this picture yesterday while i was waiting at the pumps, it was a gorgeous day

Lovely looking car mate. Looks like a pretty similar spec to mine. I went from a little pug 106 to this and let's just say the journey home was full of smiles  :driver:
Armrest is on my list of things to do. What's your plan as I don't know where to even start

Ill be starting with wheels and suspension, arm rest and then performance mods next year. I dont really plan doing  anything crazy tbh i want to be sensible and not go overboard withthis one.
What 106 did you have, a gti?
Start up a newbie thread and gets some pictures up, welcome onboard  :happy2:

Sounds like a familiar plan. Fk high sports and possibly some 3SDM 0.01s for me I think. Just it to wait for funds to allow it!

Ha I wish it was a GTI, I had a 1.1 so the step was fairly huge. The boost just makes me laugh! How are you planning on sorting the armrest? Other than trying VW directly I'm not sure where to look.

Il have to get an Intro page sorted for mine  :happy2: it's a standard black more door but I couldn't be happier considering what I came from  :drinking: here's to the joint 106 to GTI upgrade! Never thought about a reflex silver till I saw yours but it looks SMART! Congrats and thanks for the welcome!

Yeah im a big fan of the reflex, the problem with this colour is most golfs are silver, but theyre miss treated and not waxed pften enough so the look dull, its actually a really nice colour with lots of different coloured flex in it, well chuffed.
Wow, 1.1 60bhp to boosted 2.0 litre, hell of a jump :driver: , i dont really think this is much quicker than the 106 low down, but after 90 this thing just keeps pulling  ! Black was my second choice its a beautiful colour but i cba with the maintenance
Ill probably keep an eye out on here for one thats for sale, failing that i garuntee the part numbers will be on here somewhere and ill source one from the stealsrs!  :happy2:

Nice car mate! Mine is the same colour! I'm selling mine but always wanted to get the RNS510 fitted, like the GTI badges on the seat handles.

I was starting to feel like i needed a little more go so i bought a rev G and decided to give it a swaperoo.
As i undone the last of the three bolts the dv exploded,
 (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk617%2FM1ghtyMullet%2Fnull-2.jpg&hash=50d67356a85ee131069137e72f5f119f84520f82)

The diaphram was fine, with no rips or tears  :sad1: but i changed it anyway.

Seems to be pulling alot better in the high gears and feels like it wants to go a little more, not sure if its a placebo or if it has made a difference, but im much happier now knowing that everything is working perfectly.

Got bored yesterday and as the sun was out,
