Title: New addition to the GTI family
Post by: marcnazer on April 30, 2013, 08:30:22 pm
So my copy cat mother decided to get her hands on the girls version of the Golf Gti, the Polo Gti....Its pretty nice I must admit!
Same 0-60 time but much, much better fuel economy so who could complain about that?!
Thought I might as well have an impromptu photoshoot seeing as I was round and both cars were clean.

When you say fuel economy is much better. How much better?

PS nice looking set of cars.  I like a lot!

Really nice little car! Fair play to your mom, mine wouldn't know what to do with that sort of power!

Well I tested it recently I had to drive somewhere and back twice so for the first journey and back I used my car and for the 2nd journey and back I used hers.

Same driver, same conditions, same traffic, same driving style. I got 23MPG in the Golf and 36MPG in the Polo.

Pretty impressive, its because its only a 1.4 turbo but it has the same 0-60 time because its so much lighter

Theyre are tidy those polo's, wouldnt mind one tbf  :ashamed:

Theyre supercharged turbos are they not? About 160bhp or something, great figures from a little engine.
Wonder what itll map to  :driver:

Awesome cars the new polo gti, 180 bhp from something that light, you don't expect it to have so much power.

Did you see Hurdy's polo GTI build thread?

He got 250+bhp out of his and 0-60 in the 4's

The 1.4 TSI is troublesome and IIRC a lot of tuners won't touch them. Piston ring trouble seems to be the most common. Most of them drink oil too  :sad1:

Great pics , looking at the Polo you can see where the inspiration for the Mk7 Golf came from.

Lovely addition there. My mums got the new Polo GTI as well. I drove it for a few months whilst waiting to find my Edition 30. Very fun to drive!

I had a 6R Polo GTI for 6 months.  Looked awesome, great performance, awful ride as standard. It once bounced me in front of an oncoming quarry lorry! It's got nothing on a Golf.

Sounds pretty dope, i will have ti have a little dig for it. Shame about the teething problems, i guess twincharged little engines are a fairly new thing.

Lovely pair..... Not sure which I'd go for though. Polo is lovely but it's still not a Golf!

The 1.4 TSi engines are in theory brilliant, but the execution of them for VW/SEAT/Skoda is horrific. In 2 years mine had the following

New DSG Box
6 x sets of plugs
3 x Radiators
Piston Rings had vanished

on top of that,

Used 1 litre of oil every 500 miles
Constant overheating
EML on if over 5000 revs
Constant Misfiring

It was just a nightmare, and SEAT didn't want to know anything. After letters addressed to the Director, still nothing came of it. Disgusted in SEAT. I'll never return.

However the cars were in theory a brilliant car.
