Title: Shaun's Shadow Blue GT Tdi - spoiler fitted
Post by: ukshaun on May 01, 2013, 09:07:09 pm
Hi guys i thought i would finally start my "build thread". I made one a while back when i first got it but i cant find it. so i thought i would start a fresh. I have not done alot to it yet just subtle changes to make it look abit better.

So this is how i bought the car, well the closest to standard pic i can find
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft631%2Fukshaun5%2FDSC_0592_zpsbe3a7b26.jpg&hash=30eeffb87fa0c38ba644fff2f85af2c160329679)
1.So as i spent most of my saving on the car. Money was tight. So i started with the cheap stuff. Self tinted rear lights

Before- needs a clean

2.Next up was the red calipers
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft631%2Fukshaun5%2F2_zps695a427a.jpg&hash=5c58f367aa47a61fe27695dcf588e31822ce3f25)

3.Shortly after that was to get rid of the horrid rear. I decided to just get a gti backbox and a gti colour coded rear valance.
Before
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft631%2Fukshaun5%2Fdark_zps35793b3a.jpg&hash=51ffe7a390cc3d5f4717ca38e31797ac526314c8)

4. Day running lights and mud flaps before the winter.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft631%2Fukshaun5%2FDSC_0016_zpseb955175.jpg&hash=6e81e285dab78798250c814afaa7316da5855faf)

5.Then i decided to get a gti grill to go with the calipers. i made sure i took the gti badge of though. I also wrapped the front grill badge in matt black vinyl.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft631%2Fukshaun5%2F11000_10200656948729931_2022518409_n_zps60dcb64b.jpg&hash=0ac5577c006f5c0b756f88918b4044eb88afa5f6)

6. I was planing on getting a remap so i thought i would get a boost guage before hand to see the difference.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ft631%2Fukshaun5%2FDSC_0026_zpsbd3d8120.jpg&hash=ddd5ab59e018fa62f1c523729fcde3b89f19fbd1)

Looks very nice bud, pretty jealous :)

Couple of questions if I may though, How much was the colour coded rear valance, and how hard was the boost gauge to fit ?

cheers pal.

The valance was £60 ish from awesome gti with the toe cover. Then I paid a local garage £70 to have it colour coded.
As for the boost gauge that was easy to fit. I just took a power feed from the fuse box by inserting an adapter. Then I got a turbo hose with a nipple on it to take a boost feed for the gauge.
It looks better at night when it is light up as it goes with the dash lights.

Not hard at all. All you need is a reducer pipe. You can get this from a few places for about £5.The exhaust is only on for looks though.

I thinks you'll need a harsher pad on vw paint, I just done mine with hex logic pads and chemical guys polishes and used yellow, green and white pads.

a gti rear valance is around £60 but that comes black. You can pay anything from 50-200 to have it colour coded. The gti exhausts go for about £40 every now and then you just have to keep your eye open.

Hope this helps

Edit: nvm i found one online for £66 quid. Now need to find someone to do my colour and the exhaust.

I was just about to say I got mine delivered from awesome gti for about that price. Remember you normally need to order the towing eye cover on top of that. Its only a few quid.

Just a quick picture of some of my progress. I was hoping to do all the car today but I won't stop raining so I have just done the bonnet to see how it turns out.

50/50 shot - not the best of pictures to be honest it doesn't do it justice

It's quite easy really. I just removed the lights from my car by undoing the few nuts on each one.  Then I gave them a good clean and allowed them to dry. Then I masked the centres of and simply sprayed over them with some tinting spray. I just done really thin coats. It's had about 6 coats in total. But if you put it on thick I will run.

So my gti boot lid arrived yesterday, unfortunately it was not as listed and the bottom of the boot lid was damaged. this meaning i couldnt just swap the boot lids over. So I spent most f the morning taking the spoiler off. As I only wanted the spoiler anyway and it will look great after a good bit of machine polishing.
