Maybe a stupid question but there is a fella close to me selling a set of Jon coilovers for a mark 5 golf that came out of his sdi golf and I was wondering if they would fit a gti, I'm not 100% sure if they will please help.

they won't fit as yours are 55mm and the se ones are 50mm

Are they any good I know they are cheap but for all the driving I do.

No, They will not fit. As Andy says above, GTI is 55mm strut. SDI is 50mm strut.
Oh and JOMs are turd

Near sure SDIs are 55mm strut as their 2.0

Jom's usually come with a 50 mm strut and a liner to slide into if you are fitting to 55mm hub

I would say 55mm but most places will tell you to measure it for definite ...even vw can't tell you what size is fitted as the strut is just a part number and has no measurement description in ekta

Have you ever run JOMs?
FYI, all the JOMs are 50mm and they come with an adapter bracket, as pictured at the top

I have JOMs and have had since December 2011, and they are not the best but - I'm sure you can find better - But in conjunction with my ARBs they do sharpen the handling and the car is almost dead flat through corners. On a track they would perhaps be a little soft but on the road they are completely acceptable.
For the money (as in, £180 brand new with a 2 year warranty) you simply can't do better.
All the GTIs are 55mm strut. Basically if your calipers say FS III on them then you have 50mm hubs (these are only on the 280mm disc cars, smaller engined vehicles such as the 1.4, 1.6 and 1.9 TDI. But this is not a hard and fast rule. The only way to verify is, as I said to check your brakes.
If your carriers are INTEGRATED into the hub (as in, non removable) then you have 50mm hubs.

Nope iv not. Got H&R springs currently but going to KWs soon. Completely depends what you want from them though. If you want better handling and a small drop, a good spring and damper combo would be the better option compared to cheaper coilovers. If you mainly want lowering then these will be fine. Personally i dont want to scrimp on suspension and drive mine everyday so want the best i can afford!

I think it's a bit harsh to slate them without trying them.
I had Eibach springs before and it annoyed me that I was fixed to a certain height. The JOMs handle better than both stock and stock dampers + sportline springs.
Plenty of people have JOMs and have nothing but good things to say about them.
I paid around £160 for the Sportline springs new, why would you NOT buy coilovers is my question. :drinking:
As I said they are perfectly fine for fast road and light track-daying but if you are building a track weapon then, of course there are better out there, but even so..

Ok, il re-word it. JOMs are known for not being the greatest quality and there are better options out there but can be completely dependent on how they are set up. If they are set to the lowest setting they wont last long
Some people think of coilovers as a rock hard ride that isnt acceptable for use as a daily basis. Some people only want a subtle drop whilst maintaining near OEM comfort.
Same, for example as with brakes. Some are happy with 312mm, some have r32s or some go the whole hog and get a BBK. We are all different in what we want!

Oh, I agree, peoples goals and aims are different in terms of what they want :)
It's just that OK the build quality are not the best, it's nowhere near as bad as you would think.. most people on uk-mkivs run JOMs and very rarely do you hear any problems. Mine have been as low as possible since I put them on and I had one problem with the ARB bracket, which was sorted for free under warranty. Aside from that it's been faultless.
The problem is most coilovers actually ride very well, certainly comparable to a sporty stock car, I do so many miles in mine and never get out the other end with back problems or anything. That's just me though. My Mother finds it comfortable when I give her lifts to the hospital and what not so if it's OK for a 65 year old disabled woman I'm sure it'll be OK for Dave who's 30. :driver:
