Hi guys, need to replace my pads but have no idea what to buy, im not looking to spend massive ammounts and the ferodo ds2500 are a bit pricey.
I see the ferodo ds performance pads for allot cheaper, any 1 have any experience with these, or have any other suggestions for pads, i am looking to spend up to arround £130

I'd go for some OEM pads, they'd be cheaper than Ds2000 and absolutely the very same material, I'd give your dealer the chassis or reg number from an edition 35 and give them a go. Whilst you're there get some new OEM discs and a brake fluid change on fixed price and your brakes will be factory fresh.
There's little point in spending extra on a mediocre setup, it is what it is but renewed it should stop from all but silly speeds and give a good pedal

Just out of interest - what is the difference between the ED30 pads and the Edition 35 ones you refer to?

If you are just doing normal driving then I would stick with the oe discs and pads.

well i am soon to be getting stage 1 remap, with miltek catback, and i have an itg maxogen already on the car

i have some HAWK pads for sale in the sale thread. I would say they are a few pages back
but look them up !

tbh i am just wondering if it would be worth me upgrading from oem to the ebay grooved discs n pads, or if they are actualy not very good etc. just want some people thaughts

I've found that the standard 312 discs with OEM pads and fresh OEM fluid is as good as everything but race pads like: Mintex 1144s / Ferrodo DS2500. I've tried DS performance pads and Tarox Strada... my result=save your money, no better than standard.
The drilled/dimpled/grooved discs look cool, but don't offer anything over the standard disc with the standard callys; buy them for aesthetics but not for a performance advantage.
Standard R32/S3/Cupra 345 discs and bigger calipers offer a noticeable upgrade in stopping power over the 312's, did for me.
Not tried NQSBBK, but I'd expect these to be better again, with a weight saving over the 345 disc setup... although, your walking down the line of £600+
If you have £130 as a budget, follow DaveB's recommendation and get some OEM kit (if they are low) and most importantly new OEM fluid carried out by someone who knows how to fully bleed the system with ABS purge. I've found a properly bled system with fresh fluid makes a world of difference. :happy2:

Im looking at buying some and it comes in 500ml or 5 litre bottles lol

Of those two amounts, the 5L... although it's not good to leave it, as it's hygroscopic and all that jazz.
When I grabbed some from VW it came in 1L tins. Make sure you get the right spec. stuff. iirc 501.14 or newer.

The dealers most likely don't cycle the ABS.
I wonder if you have VCDS could you cycle it yourself and then drive to the dealer for the fluid change?

I changed to black diamond groved disc's
ebc red stuff pads
braided lines
And castrol brake fluid
all round!
The difference was crazy...

I have attached some prices below for the EBC discs and pads:
EBC slotted discs front (pair) - £124.12 + VAT
EBC slotted discs rear - £103.29 + VAT
Front red stuff pads - £65.84 + VAT
Rear red stuff pads - £56.68 + VAT
Labour - £110 + VAT

dude i'm not to sure about ebc brakes discs but the setup i had was good enough, for 2 years later a buddy jumped in and said when you take them brakes off give me first refusal :happy2:
He has now sold his car :signLOL:
Maybe look more towards brembo discs :happy2:

I know everyone has different experiences, but I had EBC Redstuff pads on my last motor and they had terrible initial bite esp. in the cold, perhaps the compound is different for the Mk5... once warm though, they were better than standard and very low dust iirc.
If I were you, I'd look at some 2nd hand S3/R32/Cupra brakes if your budget is creeping up.

No I agree with you scott, Ebc had terrible initial bite esp, in the cold. But i didnt think much of it.
as i would have assumed all preformance brake pads would suffer the same...
They still stop you when needed stopped!

so the general vibe im getting from you guys is to just get standard discs n pads, and if i was to modify the setup, to go for something bigger and better entirely spending £600+

I can't say a good word about EBC pads. A friend used to be able to get them at trade, so I tried on various cars the different compounds. All very poor in my experience.
The yellowstuff pads I tried on a track car were the worst. Inconsistent pedal feel, ropey stopping power, and lasted less time than Ferrodo Premier OEM spec pads. One set of yellowstuff pads failed to complete a track day when fitted to a Clio 182!
